Mrs Stewart, Miss Francis and Miss Beattie Film Music Recap… Last week we learnt about the purpose of Film Music and that it is used to help tell the story, create emotions and tension. Film Music also helps give the characters an identity. We also learnt that Film Music will sound different depending on the type or genre of film it was written for. So… How does Film Music sound different depending on the genre in order to tell the story?

What does the composer do to create the different sounds depending on the type of film? This week…

Task 1 Answers: • Clip 1: Music uses long notes played by strings and then low brass, percussion instruments used to create a driving rhythm. • Clip 2: Main jazz melody (tune) played by brass section, guitar riff, loud brass chords, use of drum kit. • Clip 3: Use of orchestra, guitar plays repeated notes to create tension. Long sing-able melody played by trumpets. • Clip 4: Short repeated phrase played on different instruments in the orchestra, harp, use of dramatic loud notes then gradually gets softer to create drama.
