“It’s such a peaceful and idyllic setting”

Cottage Charm Originally built in 1854 with a date plaque on the front of the house, the present owners moved into it in November 2016. “The attractions for us were plentiful. The quiet village location and backing on to open fields are idyllic and something we had wanted for many years. The house itself was prepared beautifully, everything had been very tastefully decorated and almost looked new.” While ensuring the cottage’s charm and character had been preserved, it had previously been fully modernised by almost gutting the building and effectively starting again so that the interior was of the highest specification, from underfloor heating downstairs to the travertine floor tiles in the kitchen. In their time the present owners have only found it necessary to make minor decorative changes to the three bedrooms, to the two chimney breasts and a kitchen wall.

“The extended marble top kitchen and dining area is a wonderful space to cook and entertain, spilling out on to a large terrace through double doors,” they said, adding, “The terrace area extends the entertaining opportunity for us with a large seating area, swing chair, fire pit and a hot tub. A fabulous space to sit outside.” While the underfloor heating keeps the cottage warm in the winter months, the owners also enjoy the open fire in the sitting room “crackling away in the colder winter evenings, when we are not in the hot tub that is, as it’s even nicer in the winter!”

Family Favourites “The entertaining areas have been our favourite for sure, with so many festive and family parties held here, together “The hot tub is a little garden luxury of ours, taking the time to relax and with the cosy lounge with open fire.” In particular, the kitchen unwind is just perfect.” and dining area is where the owners spend most of their time, making the most of the fact that it opens out onto the

hot tub terrace and the wonderful gardens with their mature planting. “It can also be very, very quiet here as we are so remote, which is amazingly nice to relax in.”

Garden Delight The property is set well back from the road by a garden with a sizeable raised front lawn. “A lovely Beech hedge lines the three boundaries giving privacy and a great area to sit out in the late summer evenings.” And the rear garden is stunning, with mature shrubs and trees and a planted archway through to the latter half of the garden. “There is also a secret garden at the bottom right-hand side where the fields begin, behind mature bamboo and shrubs, which is a wonderful suntrap during the day and even better to relax in the late evening with a fire pit. We often have pheasants walking around the rear gardens, together with a mass of wild birds, squirrels and even the odd muntjac deer.”

The property benefits from a large gravel drive and parking area sufficient for around five cars, in addition to a double garage. “The garage itself has an upper floor too with windows at each end and skylights. That would be a great space to develop into something quite exciting.”

Village Life “The area itself is quiet but has a lovely village, neighbourly feel. A local village hall has numerous events through the year, a bowling green and a stunning church at the end of the road. It’s lovely to go out for a walk in the evenings as we are right next to open fields. We are also close enough to the coast to just take thirty to forty minutes to reach the coastline.”

“The quiet setting, a lovely house, beautiful gardens and entertainment areas to match, just idyllic.”
