Population growth is inevitable outcome of the demographic transition, primarily as a result of high fertility and secondarily mortality declines and mobility in view of rapidly growing or population explosion. Growth of population is the change in the number in a particular area between two given points of time. As described in the preceding paper, the population of our ancestors, a few million years ago, was confined to Africa and numbered only in Lakh. By the time our ancestors invented agriculture, the information started passing from generation to generation. The transmission of knowledge about hunting, gathering and preparation of food helped in expansion of agriculture and growth of population. The growth of population was, however, not continuous after the agricultural Revolution. Civilization rose, flourished and disintegrated; periods of good and bad weather occurred; and famine and war took their toll. Despite fluctuations in the birth and death rates, agriculture permitted the existence not only of higher population densities, and settled village life, but also of large scale cooperative ventures, specialization of labour, development of crafts and social stratification, the growth and development of irrigation and the emergence of towns and cities concentrated of economic power in the hands of numerically small elite.

The fauna and flora, the National parks, the animal and bird sanctuaries provide a sight of wild animals like elephants, tigers, bisons, deers, black bucks, peacocks and many species in their natural habitat. A rich variety of flora like: aromatic sandalwood, pipal and banyan trees are abundantly available in the State. The river Cauvery, Tunga, Krishna, Kapila – enrich the soil of the land and contribute to the State’s agricultural prosperity. The water falls created by the rivers are a feast to the eyes of the outlookers. Historical bakground: Karnataka is a land with rich historical past. It has many pre-historic sites and most of them are in the river valleys. Rice created the twelve volumes of the Epigraphia Carnatica from 1886 until 1905, transcribing and translating circa nine thousand inscriptions. The entire corpus is now composed of seventeen volumes, the last five being added between 1940-1950 by Narasimhacharya and H. M. Krishna. During the time in which Rice collected the inscriptions he also collaborated with the Archaeological Department of Mysore and worked on the editions of the Gazetteers of Mysore (three volumes). Part of the Epigraphia Carnatica originated from a patient reconstruction of information collected centuries before with the aim to build the past annals of the country. The Mysore King Cikka Dēva Rājā, who ruled from 1672 to 1704, had lists and copies of the inscriptions throughout his country for the purpose of checking his endowments. Unfortunately, these documents went partially lost during the reign of Tipu Sultān. On the restoration of the Hindu Raj, Colonel Mackenzie took copies of as many as thousands inscriptions. At the end of the nineteenth century, the introduction of photography gave him the chance to write down the original inscriptions, amending the mistakes that were unwittingly propagated by unreliable copies of inscriptions and other records. The work of Rice started in the 1879 with the translations of Mysore Inscriptions; this volume is divided in two parts: the inscriptions photographed by Dixon and those belonging to Rice’s private collection. The publication of the Epigraphia Carnatica began in 1886 with the material collected previously; between the years 1890-1897 Rice started his exploration of Karnāṭaka transcribing all inscriptions district by district, along a systematic procedure.

This plan has been prepared which is based on the guidelines provided by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). At first, self-help is essential and efforts have been made to collect and develop this plan to make it more applicable and effective to handle any type of disaster.
