ANNUAL REPORT 2016 – 2017 President’s Report Let me begin by saying how honoured I am to be the President of Dobroyd Aquatic Club. At times I feel a bit like the captain of a prestigious liner, at the wheel, waving to the crowd on the dock, but what the crowds often don’t see is all the workers below, checking the engines, oiling the cogs and pistons, the kitchen staff, the cabin attendants, the people checking the life boats, as well as the people maintaining the rope lines or the 100 other tasks and jobs needed to keep a beautiful ship like that functioning and not running aground. So it is at DAC too, what many people might not see is the numerous individuals who give up their time, not just every sailing day but other times as well, whether it’s replying to some enquiry about hiring the hall, or how do they become a member, what boats do we sail, if they join can they store their boat here and all sorts of other things, often as mundane as going to the club on a Tuesday morning to get the bins out for the Garbos to collect, not glamorous, or fun but essential and is done every week none the less. Well by now you might have picked up on the fact that one of the reasons I feel so honoured to be President is the people who are DAC, the committee, the starters, the rescue crews, Linda in the canteen, the coaches, the ladies who put on our great functions and the people who may only do a small job, but it saves someone else having to do it, just like the guy who puts the smelly bins out each week. This is what DAC is all about, it’s our family of volunteers who make DAC the envy of many clubs. Again this year, Trevor, leading the training class has been a great success teaching young kids to sail, and additionally this year saw adults learning to sail, with Robin Pidd teaching adults in the boats and Lissa and Richie continuing the program, teaching youth and adults to sail on the boards. Well done to all of you. This year The Club purchased a new starters boat and was Christened, Dobbie Too, with more room for the starters and a fibreglass hull it should see us through into the future for some time yet. Sufficient storage space for boats to enable the club to grow has been a problem the Club has been working on for some time. Persistent efforts and ongoing discussions with council we have made
