recap and analysis

What keeps good team relevant and successful in the NFL? Good contributional players through the draft. The Seattle Seahawks have had recent numerous successful drafts, let it be from 2010 where they acquired in the first round and in the fifth round two crucial pieces to an allpro secondary named the “Legion of Boom”. Or revert to the 2012 draft where they acquired , , . All not only caliber players but sufficient starters through the years of 2010 through 2015, players such as KJ Wright, Justin Britt, JR Sweezy, and all these players add depth and current competition within the seahawks locker room. Today I’ll be completely reviewing the seahawks most recent 2016 draft class and giving my personal analysis of the good and the bad.

In the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks traded the 26th overall pick with the Denver broncos for the 31st overall pick and a third round pick (94th overall). While the Denver Broncos were hoping to draft a future leader in Quarterback , the Seattle Seahawks looked to bulk up their offensive line by drafting offensive tackle turned guard from Texas A&M. Ifedi was one of the top tackle prospects coming out of 2016. He had one of the quickest pairs of feet coming out of 2016 with a tremendous pair of hands. In most people’s eyes, the Seattle Seahawks got one of the best steals of the entire draft. Overall i think that the seahawks selection was a very smart move(even though personally i was drooling over the potential of myles jack), to get not only to get a potential steal but to get a versatile lineman who can come in and be productive from day one.

The Seahawks have a tremendous defense from the defensive line to the defensive backs, but you can never have enough impact players on one side of the ball, which is why they decided to draft from the University of Alabama with the 49th overall pick. Reed to some people was an easy 1st round pick when he chose to come out. But, over time, scouts were saying he wasn’t cut out to be an NFL defensive tackle. What makes him stand out though? He was quite possibly the best run stopper coming out of this entire draft. And, he knows what it takes to win games, coming from Alabama. Reed i think could be the best pick for the entire seahawks draft class given the defensive mindset and prowess that the seahawks carry. Last year the seahawks had the #1 run stop defense in the league for the first time in their dominant defensive run. Add possibly the best run stopping defensive tackle to the equation, not to mention Reed possibly immediately fills the void left by .

In the third round of the draft the seahawks selected running back CJ Prosise, tight end , and offensive guard . While i would’ve liked to see more offensive line picks in this round given the talent there late i think the picks made in the third were smart selections based on seahawks needs. Getting a good third down running back in CJ Prosise is a smart pick he can come in and immediately contribute by his ability to protect the quarterback and catch the ball out of the backfield, also it never hurts to have somebody to take the pressure off the projected starter Thomas Rawls. Next selection was Nick Vannett, although again id love to see and offensive lineman here Nick Vannett is a good run blocking tight end that seems to matchup well with what the seahawks like to do in the pass game as well, given the injury to last year i think it was smart to add young depth at the position for the seahawks and at the end of the day the pick makes a lot of sense. Last of all Rees Odhiambo, finally an offensive line pick. Odhiambo is a very athletic and versatile offensive lineman with great footwork and run blocking skills he’s the ideal molding block and i think that he can have amazing contribution in the future given that he stays healthy at the NFL level. In conclusion the third round the seahawks got great value in the third and i think it could go down as the best round for the seahawks.

The seahawks didn’t have a fourth round pick but they did have two fifth round selections. In the fifth round the seahawks still found a way to add depth and add talent to push competition. The seahawks first selection in the fifth round was defensive tackle, while i do admit that this isn’t my favorite pick, head coach is extremely enthusiastic about Jeffersons potential and if i’ve ever learned anything from the pete carroll and john schneider era is that you trust their gut when it comes to late round talent. Another exciting prospect for the seahawks is their next pick Alex Collins. Alex Collins doesn’t have much flashy background or amazing physical features, but the exciting part about Collins is that he resembles the hard running style the seahawks have banked on in recent history. A lot of comparisons can be made between Collins and the seahawks former all pro running back . The most spectacular part is that even tho the seahawks selected Alex collins in the fifth round a lot of NFL analysts believe that Collins can come in and contribute immediately due to his uncanny fit to the seahawks running scheme. In conclusion the seahawks fifth round picks are not only extremely exciting but have a chance to bring an immediate impact and good competition to add to an already talented roster, just that alone makes the fifth round for the seahawks a smart round for the seahawks.

Now as we all know the thing that has separated seahawks from the rest of the league in recent history is their ability to grab talent in the late rounds. This year the seahawks did exactly that with their 6th and 7th round picks and . Joey Hunt isn't so much extraordinary talent as much as he is upside potential for a position of need for the seahawks. Hunt shows great intelligence and strong hands at the center position which is always good considering the seahawks haven't had a great starting center since they dished for jimmy graham. The next selection for the seahawks was kenny lawler in the 7th round, Kenny Lawler was more of a pure talent selection he doesn't have ideal dominating size but the thing that stands out with Lawler is his great ball skills and extremely strong hands. The first thing you notice about Lawlers highlight reel is his ability to make spectacular catches in the red zone and in the you can never have enough talent in the red zone. Last but not least is the hawks last selection running back . Zac Brooks is the ideal roll the dice kind of selection that is worth a late 7th round pick given his lack of production in college, the only thing that really puts him on any type of nfl radar is his ideal size and incredible pro day performance, his measurables are exactly what you want in a running back and his pro day performance show some excellent athleticism and late in the 7th round is exactly where you want to take chances on prospects like this so i definitely respect this selection for the seahawks. In conclusion i think this draft could go down as possibly one of the best ever for the seahawks. The seahawks not only added great talent and depth to the roster but they also attacked positions of need as well. The Seattle Seahawks also got not only incredible upside potential but i see some real potential for superstars in this draft along with great depth. Last of all as i said before the seattle seahawks in the 2016 draft may have capped off one of the greatest drafts in the history of the franchise and the great talent they acquired is very exciting to watch develop over the next upcoming years and should keep the hawks a contender for years to come.
