The Effects of Digital Music Distribution" (2012)
Southern Illinois University Carbondale OpenSIUC Research Papers Graduate School Spring 4-5-2012 The ffecE ts of Digital Music Distribution Rama A. Dechsakda [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/gs_rp The er search paper was a study of how digital music distribution has affected the music industry by researching different views and aspects. I believe this topic was vital to research because it give us insight on were the music industry is headed in the future. Two main research questions proposed were; “How is digital music distribution affecting the music industry?” and “In what way does the piracy industry affect the digital music industry?” The methodology used for this research was performing case studies, researching prospective and retrospective data, and analyzing sales figures and graphs. Case studies were performed on one independent artist and two major artists whom changed the digital music industry in different ways. Another pair of case studies were performed on an independent label and a major label on how changes of the digital music industry effected their business model and how piracy effected those new business models as well. I analyzed sales figures and graphs of digital music sales and physical sales to show the differences in the formats. I researched prospective data on how consumers adjusted to the digital music advancements and how piracy industry has affected them. Last I concluded all the data found during this research to show that digital music distribution is growing and could possibly be the dominant format for obtaining music, and the battle with piracy will be an ongoing process that will be hard to end anytime soon. -

2017 Global Drug Survey
Prepared by the GDS Core Research Team Dr Adam Winstock, Dr Monica Barratt, Dr Jason Ferris & Dr Larissa Maier Global overview and highlights N > 115,000 Global Drug Survey GDS2017 © Not to be reproduced without authors permission Hi everyone On behalf of the GDS Core Research Team and everyone of our amazing international network partners and supportive media organisations we’d like to share our headline report deck. I know it won’t have everything that everyone wants but we are hopeful it will give people an idea of how the world of drugs is changing and highlight some of the key things that we think people can better engage with to keep themselves and those they care for safe. Once we cleaned the data from 150,000 people we chose to use data from just under 120,000 people this year for these reports. We have data reports addressing 18 different areas for over 25 countries. We can only share a fraction of what we have here on the site. However, we are very open to sharing the other findings we have and would ask researchers and public health groups to contact us so we can discuss funding and collaboration. We have almost completed designing GDS2018 so that we can start piloting early and give countries where we have not yet found friends to reach out to us. We particularly want to hear from people in Japan, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. I Still Believe
I still believe I still believe was first recorded by Bunny DeBarge in 1986. A year later, Chrysalis artist Brenda K. Starr also recorded a version of the song, who just happened to be employing a back-up singer 0351 5” CD-Single from Austria named Mariah Carey at the time. In 1998, Mariah recorded her own SAMPCS 6452 promo in slimline jewelcase version for her compilation album #1’s. I still believe was released as a single on February 9, 1999 in the USA and on March 1, 1999 Tracklisting: in Europe. On February 23, a remix single, called I still believe/Pure 1. I still believe (Album Version) imagination, was released. On the back cover is a little message for the dj’s: “I want to thank everyone at radio for your continued support. I appreciate ya! Love, Mariah.” On January 5, 2001, Kathi Pinto, a songwriter from California, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in United States District Court for the Central District of California over the single. Kathi alleges in the suit that she co-wrote a song entitled I still believe in 1981, which was sold to music publisher Galen Senogles at Simple Song Music that same year. As the song switched hands among various publish- 0986 5” CD-Single from Austria SAMPCS 666781-8 ers and record execs over the years through Pinto’s desire for a re- promo without sleeve cording contract, it eventually ended up in the hands of Tom Sturges at Chrysalis Records around 1985. Sturges allegedly helped pen a Tracklisting: tune called I still believe with Antonina Armato and Beppe Canarelli. -
JKT48 As the New Wave of Japanization in Indonesia Rizky Soraya Dadung Ibnu Muktiono English Department, Universitas Airlangga
JKT48 as the New Wave of Japanization in Indonesia Rizky Soraya Dadung Ibnu Muktiono English Department, Universitas Airlangga Abstract This paper discusses the cultural elements of JKT48, the first idol group in Indonesia adopting its Japanese sister group‘s, AKB48, concept. Idol group is a Japanese genre of pop idol. Globalization is commonly known to trigger transnational corporations as well as to make the spreading of cultural value and capitalism easier. Thus, JKT48 can be seen as the result of the globalization of AKB48. It is affirmed by the group management that JKT48 will reflect Indonesian cultures to make it a unique type of idol group, but this statement seems problematic as JKT48 seems to be homogenized by Japanese cultures in a glance. Using multiple proximities framework by La Pastina and Straubhaar (2005), this study aims to present the extent of domination of Japanese culture occurs in JKT48 by comparing cultural elements of AKB48 and JKT48. The author observed the videos footages and conducted online survey and interviews to JKT48 fans. The research shows there are many similarities between AKB48 and JKT48 as sister group. It is then questioned how the fans achieved proximity in JKT48 which brings foreign culture and value. The research found that JKT48 is the representation of AKB48 in Indonesia with Japanese cultural values and a medium to familiarize Japanese culture to Indonesia. Keywords: JKT48, AKB48, idol group, multiple proximities, homogenization Introduction “JKT48 will reflect the Indonesian cultures to fit as a new and unique type of idol group”. (JKT48 Operational Team, 2011) “JKT48 will become a bridge between Indonesia and Japan”. -
