WHEREAS, on April 12, 2020 severe thunder storms across Ouachita Parish produced an atmosphere that generated tornadoes and high winds directly hitting Sterlington High School 233 Keystone Road Sterlington, LA at approximate 11:30 am causing damage, including but not limited to, light poles, roofs, track equipment, storage and portable buildings, trail- ers, building panels, etc. WHEREAS, Louisiana R.S. 38:2212 P (1) provides that advertisement for public bids shall not apply in public emergencies. BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDAINED that the Ouachita Parish School Board, at a legally convened meeting, hereby certifies that a public emer- gency exists because of the possible exposure of roof leaks, structural dam- age to light poles, structural damage to buildings, etc. which requires im- mediate action to repair, and to purchase materials or supplies, and engage contractors to perform public works without the necessity of complying with the formalities of Louisiana R.S. 38:2211, et seq., to 38:2212.1, et seq., for the purposes of securing the site, testing, replacement of equipment and structural repairs. BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDAINED that the Ouachita Parish School Board authorizes its Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Don Coker, upon con- sultation with board legal counsel and insurance adjusters to negotiate contracts for any and all building repairs and any and all equipment re- placement at Sterlington High School in order to maintain the integrity of the main facility along with peripheral structures and make whole that equipment destroyed by the weather event. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDAINED that notice of the provisions contained in this resolution shall be published in the official journal of the Ouachita Parish School Board.
