Police Charge Minister With Sexual Assault

A Hartford minister was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting two sisters on seve ral occasions at his home an vehicle, police said.

One of the girls, 14, is now eight months pregnant and says the baby is his; the othe r sister is now 16. Both girls at the minister's church.

Carlos Sunun, 40, of 32 Douglas St., was arrested on two warrants about 12:40 p.m. at J. Namnoun Oriental Rugs Weston Street, where he works.

He is being held on a total bond of $150,000, and faces numerous sexual assault charg es, along with risk of injury minor and threatening.

Hartford police were tipped off about the alleged assaults a year ago, but when detec tives approached the older gir December 1995, she denied the allegations and did not want to cooperate, said Lt. Jos eph Conti, commander of th youth services division.

The investigation was suspended until last month, when the 16-year- old girl and her younger sister both came forw police.

In connection with the 14-year- old girl, Sunun was charged with two counts of first- degree sexual assault and one each of third- degree sexual assault and fourth- degree sexual assault, and three cou nts of risk of injury to a minor.
