Numărul total al spectatorilor s-a apropiat probabil de 20 de mii, cifră firească pentru o localitate obişnuită cu evenimentele muzicale de mare amploare: practic, în ultimele decenii s-a perindat aici toată floarea starurilor din topuri, inclusiv a... Apusului, aşa încât s-ar putea spune, în glumă, că nu exişti dacă n-ai fost măcar o dată la Focşani! Asta sigur şi- a dorit şi Goran Bregovici... şi visul i s-a împlinit, chiar dacă nu se aştepta Connect-R invitaţii respectându-şi rangul (la Focşani exigenţa publicului este binecunoscută şi... rodată), prin interpretarea tuturor hit- urilor. Prima seară, după spectaculoasa caravană a toamnei, cu car alegoric, sute de elevi reprezentând toate liceele din oraş şi trupă de animaţie (actori pe picioroange sau costumaţi amuzant, inclusiv în... struguri şi butoaie, doar eram în Vrancea!), a fost deschisă, pe scenă, de experimentata formaţie locală Provincialii, cu atât de cunoscutul solist vocal Ionuţ Ungureanu. Chiar dacă acesta din urmă are în portofoliu numeroase piese de muzică uşoară, actuala formulă a grupului, o combinaţie româno- să găsească într-un oraş mediu (ca Vunk populaţie) din România o scenă impresionantă, dotată cu sunet, lumini, efecte speciale de talie internaţională (Visual Emotion – Ovidiu Popică). -

The novel is set in Ferrara in February, 1579, an Italian city at the height of its powers but deep in debt. Amid the aristocratic pomp and popular festivities surrounding the duke’s wedding to his third wife, the secret child of the city’s most celebrated singer goes missing. A street-smart debt collector and lovelorn bureaucrat are drawn into her increasingly desperate attempts to find her son, their efforts uncovering the brutal instruments of ostentation and domination that gave rise to what we now know as the Renaissance. In the critical component, I draw on the experience of writing The Angel of Ferrara and nonfiction works to explore the relationship between history and fiction. Beginning with a survey of the development of historical fiction since the inception of the genre’s modern form with the Walter Scott’s Waverley, I analyse the various paratextual interventions—prefaces, authors’ notes, acknowledgements—authors have used to explore and explain the use of factual research in their works. I draw on this to reflect in more detail at how research shaped the writing of the Angel of Ferrara and other recent historical novels, in particular Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall. -

This thumbnail for Big Nemo shows that Alan Moore planned his page out as a traditional comic page, even though he knew he wanted the panels of it to only be visible one at a time. Below, we can see Moore’s script for the first two panels which features directions for the artist, as well as sound directions, and also what transitions there might be for the balloons and captions. All the writers had to make the choice of what to direct and what not to. They mostly put in a ‘wishlist’ which they were happy to see pared down, as the practicalities of those things were weighed against the time frame of the project. PANEL 1. In the blackness, we have SOUND F.X. of gentle snoring and whistling, bedroom ambience. After a second or two, the first caption appears up towards the top left corner of the top quarter-page space on the screen. The caption is reversed-out white on black, and is in a suitably fancy 1920s font. CAPTION: NEW YORK, 1929. PANEL 2. After a moment, the caption fades from sight. On the SOUND F.X. we have the snoring and whistling suddenly cease in the sound of a child falling out of bed and clattering to the floor. Then, in the lower left quarter of the bottom panel-space, we have a standard small black and white line image of McKay’s Little Nemo having just fallen out of his bed, which we see the top part of directly behind him. -

Arias-Acu˜na aDept. of Signal Theory and Communications, University of Vigo, EI de Telecomunicaci´on, ES 36310 Vigo, Spain; bNortheastern University, 360 Huntington Ave., Suite 302 Stearns Center, Boston, MA 02115, USA This paper presents a new method, based on the well-known method of moments (MoM), for the numerical electromagnetic analysis of scattering and radiation from metallic or dielectric structures, or both structure types in the same simulation, that are in contact with other metallic or dielectric structures. The proposed method for solving the MoM junction problem consists of two separate algorithms, one of which comprises a generalization for bodies in contact of the surface integral equation (SIE) formulations. Unlike some other published SIE generalizations in the field of computational electromagnetics, this generalization does not require duplicating unknowns on the dielectric separation surfaces. Additionally, this generalization is applicable to any ordinary single-scatterer SIE formulations employed as baseline. -

After moving to Dryden village, his time was occupied for two or three years in various occupations, including in summer farming and cattle-driving, attendance at school for a short time when possible, and teaching school in the winter. In 1864 he entered the employ ment of Sears & Spear, in the general merchandise business, and re mained with them for three years, receiving as a salary for the first year four dollars per week, boarding himself. In 1867 he entered the employment of Dodge & Hebard, of Williamsport, Pa., in the lumber business, and remained in the employment of the Dodge interest for eleven years. In 1878 he started in the wholesale lumber business in Buffalo, and, from that time to 1891, was engaged in the lumber and shipping business. At that time he sold out his lumber business to his brothers, and retired from active business for six years, living in California during that period. Returning to Buffalo in 1897, he joined his brothers again, conducting business on a large scale, and they are now handling about forty million feet of lumber per year. In his father's family were nine children, six boys and three girls ; six of these are now living, three boys and three girls. One brother, James V. Tyler, died in the service of his country, after having been through the terrible battles of Spottsylvania and the Wilderness, through to Cold Harbor, where he contracted a disease from which he died in a hospital in New York soon after. -

His graphic novel Watchmen (drawn by artist David Gibbons) is widely hailed as one of the greatest comic stories ever written, and is credited along with Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns for reinventing comic books in the 1980’s. After The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and From Hell came out, Alan Moore declared that he no longer wished to have his name associated with films based on his writing. No work copyrighted solely to him would be available for film adaptations. Works in which copyright was shared (primarily with the artists), Moore would take neither credit nor payment for the work. This arrangement was used successfully with Constantine , although there was some legal difficulty with the most recent picture, V for Vendetta . Moore’s Early Life and Work. Alan Moore was born to a working class family in Northhampton, England, on November 18, 1953.
