Attention North Dakota Military Vehicle Collector Club Members!
Pulling the chocks out…your editor Brian M. Carlson 2018 should be another great year in the club. We got-together once again at Stan’s shop / man cave on March 3rd (thanks, Ellen, for the Cheesy Potatoes) and plotted out our course of events for our lucky thirteenth year as an organized club and affiliate chapter of MVPA. Speaking of the MVPA, those of us who are members of the national will have noticed that their two publications (Supply Line and Army Motors) will be molded into one unified club magazine. Granted, I’m not one of the “old guard” MVPA members, but in my borderline not so humble opinion, it’s about darn time. While retiring editor Reg Hodson has put a lot of sweat equity into Army Motors over the last 30-plus years, I for one will be glad to see a unified publication for all of MVPA. For those of you who aren’t MVPA members, while that is your prerogative, I highly encourage you to join the national (actually international) organization. You’ll notice fresh new advertising for them in here (including a membership form), as part of maintaining our affiliation with them. Another new advertiser you’ll notice is David Doyle Books. Some of you have seen him at the MVPA national meets, the former Iola military show, or recognize him as the Supply Line editor (or whatever the new name will become for the new combined magazine). He’s now jumped in with both feet into the retail book industry. In addition to advertising in our newsletter, he sent six books which were raffle prizes at the March 3rd meeting at Stan’s. -

It is simply may also called as Amphibian. Amphibious vehicle is a concept of vehicle having versatile usage. It can be put forward for the commercialization purpose with respect to various applications like in the field of military and rescue operations. Researchers are working on amphibious vehicle with capability to run in adverse conditions in efficient way. This paper focuses on concept of amphibious vehicle in detail. In later stage of paper we have explain and described the design and analysis of amphibious car. We have followed proper design procedure and enlisted the material used in detail. Capabilities of efficient amphibious vehicle will fulfil all the emerging needs of society. Success of every concept largely relies on research and development, though amphibious vehicle is yet to travel a long journey of innovative development, it has shown excellent potentials for future benefits. -

FEATURING the FORD GPA APRIL 2014 ISSUE NUMBER—11 THE SS THISTLEGORM Divers explore the rusting trains, trucks and motorbikes on the WWII British munitions ship sunk by a German bomber off the coast of Egypt. By Emma Thomas A piece of history frozen in time beneath the waves has been documented in amaz- ing photographs. The SS Thistlegorm shipwreck, a British munitions ship sunk by a German bomber in 1941 off the coast of Egypt, lays undisturbed. Now turned into a world-class diving site, the wreckage provides a fascinating insight into the past. SS Thistlegorm: The vessel's cargo included: Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier ar- moured vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammuni- tion, and 0.303 rifles as well as radio equipment, Wellington boots, aircraft parts, and two LMS Stanier Class 8F steam locomotives. Twisted metal of the war ship's hull has lain in the same place for more than 60 years after ship was bombed by German planes in the Second World War. The mer- chant ship lies in the Straits of Gubal in the Northern Red Sea and time has stood still for the supply ship which still has its cargo on board. Built in Sunderland, the SS Thistlegorm completed three voyages to the USA, Argentina and the West Indies before its ill-fated mission to Suez. SS THISTLEGORM Built: January 1941 Launched: 9th April 1940 Type: Steamship, single screw Gross Tonnage: 4898 tonnes Length: 415 feet/126m Sale price: £115,000 Crew: 41 Bombed: 6th October 1941 Casualties: 9 Killed Depth-Deepest: 30m Depth-Shallowest: 13m VOYAGES: 1) USA to bring back steel rails and aircraft parts 2) Argentina, returning with grain 3) West Indies for sugar and rum 4) Final voyage to Suez The vessel's cargo included: Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier armoured vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammunition, and 0.303 ri- fles as well as radio equipment, Wellington boots, aircraft parts, and two LMS Sta- nier Class 8F steam locomotives. -

Detroit War Products Overview
DETROIT: THE “ARSENAL OF DEMOCRACY OVERVIEW OF SIX PRODUCTS ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS World War II marked the refinement of aerial combat and the widespread use of tactical heavy aerial bombing. To counteract the air threat, ground and shipboard anti-aircraft guns were rapidly developed and manufactured. The production tolerances were very strict, often measured in millionths of an inch. Not only did Detroit manufacturers meet the need, but they were often able to reduce production time and cost by fifty percent. PRODUCTION As an example of the complexity involved in ordnance production, thousands of sub-contractors were involved in making parts for anti-aircraft weapons, and many others produced millions of rounds of large caliber ammunition. Of the many guns built for the war, three models were built by in the Detroit area: the 20mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun, the 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun and the 90mm anti-aircraft gun. Several small manufacturers in the Detroit area obtained war contracts to produce gun components and ammunition. FORD MOTOR COMPANY Made 75mm gun mounts, used for large anti-aircraft guns on tanks, including the M4 Sherman tank. Built gun directors for the 40mm Bofors gun. CHRYSLER CORPORATION Made over 60,000 40mm Bofors guns and 120,000 gun barrels at various plants, including the Jefferson-Kercheval arsenal, the Highland Park plant and the Plymouth plant. In total, 11 Chrysler factories were involved in making and assembling the guns. Chrysler also involved 2,000 subcontractors in 330 cities to manufacture parts and ammunition. Due to the complex design and tight production variances of the Bofors gun, it took the Swedish inventors 450 man-hours to build one gun. -
