PARENT'S WEEKEND EVENTS OCT. 28-30

CHARLESTON--, a multi-award winning country group, along with opening act Lee Roy Parnell, will be the featured performers at this year's

Parent's Weekend Concert at Eastern Illinois Univer~ity, Saturday, Oct. 29.

The group first gained national notoriety when it became the first country group in history to reach #1 with its debut single when "" hit the top of the charts in 1991. The group also hit the top of the charts in '91 with .

"" and hit the top five with "Mirror Mirror," "Mamma Don't Forget

To Pray For Me" and "."

The success of the group resulted in the group becoming the Academy of

Country Music's "Top Vocal Group" and the Association's "Vocal

Group of the Year," both in 1991.

Parnell has also gained notoriety in the country music industry and was nominated this year for a Horizon Award.

The concert, sponsored by the University Board Concerts Committee, will be

A number of other Parent's Weekend events are planned Oct. 28-30. They include:

Friday, Oct. 28

--The University Board Movies Committee will present the movie "Schindler's

List" at 7 p.m. in the Booth Library Lecture Hall.

--Centerstage '94 "Sock Hop Ball," a fund-raiser for EIU music department scholarships, will be held at 6:30p.m. at Richard's Farm Restaurant in Casey.

There will be a catered meal and a full evening of entertainment. For more information, call 217/581-301 0.

Saturday, Oct. 29

--A coffee hour and continental breakfast from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the

University Union Bookstore Lounge, hosted by the Parent's Club Board of Directors and the University Board. Representatives from Student Affairs will be available to meet with parents to discuss concerns.

--The University Union will offer a deli box lunch to Parent's Weekend participants. To reserve a box lunch, call the University Union Ticket Office.

--Parents can have a video button made with their student from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bridge Lounge in the Walkway of the University

Union.

ADD 2/2/2/2 PARENT'S WEEKEND

--The football game between Eastern Illinois University's Panthers and the

Indiana State Sycamores will begin at 1 p.m. at O'Brien Stadium.

--A candlelight dinner buffet will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. in different locations in the University Union. Tickets are $11.25 per person and can be purchased that evening.

Sunday, Oct. 30

--A Sunday brunch will be offered by the Parent's Club to all Parent's

Weekend participants. The brunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in both ballrooms in the University Union. Tickets are available for $7.25 per person and can be purchased at the door.

Office hours for Saturday, Oct. 29 will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
