In a case study titled “Readiness for Reform,” the AAMC calls Duke-NUS “a pioneer in medical education” for being one of the first schools of medicine to successfully apply team-based learning throughout the basic science curriculum. All courses taken by first-year medical students at Duke-NUS are taught in the collaborative, coop- erative learning method similar to that used by American business schools. Students review supplemental material prior to attending class. In class they take an individual readiness assessment to gauge their knowledge of the material, followed by the same test taken in teams. Sokatch George Lynn Cross Research Professor Emeritus Copyrighted by the Regents of the University of Oklahoma, 2001 Preface The University of Oklahoma Medical School is nearing its 100th anniversary as a separate program of the University and the Department of Biochemistry was founded just over 75 years ago. The science of biochemistry has assumed a central position in all of the biological sciences – even taxonomy. The time has come to document the history of Biochemistry at the Medical School before some of these memories are lost. Much of this history will include histories of Oklahoma, of the Norman campus of the University, politics of Oklahoma, history of the Medical School and some of the big picture of the science of biochemistry because all of these had an impact on the development of the Department. The Medical School began on the Norman Campus where Biochemistry (at that time called Physiological Chemistry) was taught by the Chemistry Department of the University. Paul Weigel suggested the idea for a history of the Department. Without his support this treatise would not have been completed. I had no idea how interesting the project would turn out to be, but maybe Paul did which is why he made the suggestion. I would especially like to thank Joyce Anderson and Paul for their valuable service in editing the manuscript. In this study, a comprehensive phenotypic and genetic comparison of T3D virus stocks 21 from various laboratories and commercial sources revealed that T3D laboratory strains differ substantially in their 22 oncolytic activities in vitro and in vivo. Superior replication of the most-oncolytic T3D lab strain was attributed to 23 several mechanistic advantages: virus-cell binding, viral RNA transcriptase activity, viral inclusion morphology, 24 and differential activation of RIG-I versus NFκB-dependent signalling pathways.
