    Love it when a plan comes together movie Continue You may or may not be a fan of the 80s television series The A-Team, but you probably know the show's famous slogan: I like it when a plan comes together. It was frequently used throughout the show's five-season run from 1983 to 1986 by the head of the cigar-chomping team, Colonel John Hannibal Smith, played by actor George Peppard. Peppard first uttered the line in the 2-hour pilot episode Mexican Slayride, which originally aired on January 23, 1983 as an NBC Sunday Night Movie. The first regular one-hour episode of The A-Team aired the following week, january 30, 1983, after the Superbowl. After that, the show moved to a time slot Tuesday at 8 p.m. Other members of Hannibal's good-bonaary mercenary team include Templeton Face Peck, played by Dirk Benedict throughout the regular series, but by Tim Dunigan in the pilot; Howling Mad Murdock, played by Dwight Schultz; and Boscoe B.A. (for Bad Attitude) Baracus, memorably played by Mr. T. Naturally, Peppard's slogan in the television series A-Team was resurrected and used several times in the 2010 film A-Team, which starred Liam Neeson as Hannibal Smith. Some people assume that the A-Team series is also the origin of another well-known slogan - Mr. T's famous phrase I feel sorry for the fool.     GRAAT issue # 2 – June 2007 Camp and the Sublimation of the Homoerotic in Male Action Television Series of the 1980s: Knight Rider and The A-Team Michael Hardin Bloomsburg University (This essay was included in “Crime Time-Prime Time-Global Time: Intercultural Studies in Crime Serials,” edited by Susanne Fendler & Ute Fendler, Aachen, Germany: Shaker Verlag, 2004: 235-53. It is reprinted here with their kind permission) One of the great mysteries in Hollywood is, why do some television shows make it and others fail? And then, what makes a show likely to succeed in syndication, nationally and/or internationally? Given that most shows fail, there is no clear, singular predictor for a show’s success. The two shows that I will address, Knight Rider (1982-86) and The A-Team (1982-87), are not particularly well-written, original, or thought- provoking, but both have proven highly successful during their original runs and in national and international syndication. Knight Rider is the story of a single man, Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff), who works for the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG), and drives an interactive car, the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT); together, Knight and KITT fight crime, helping those in need. Likewise, The A-Team is the story of four men, Viet Nam veterans, John “Hannibal” Smith (George Peppard), Templeton “Face” Peck (Dirk Benedict), Bosco “B.A.” Baracus (Mr. T), and H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock (Dwight Schultz), who defend those who are in need. These are good-versus-evil narratives, where good always wins. These are “buddy” narratives, men doing things together.

I turn televisions on when I walk into rooms and watch whatever – mostly news, talk shows, the weather and breakfast programs. When I actually sit down, I’m a very snobby viewer. I watch documentaries on the ABC or SBS or Apple TV, or I binge-view all the latest great cable drama – from The Killing to Game of Thrones, Mad Men and Olive Kitteridge. What’s your guilty pleasure?
