The Cannonball Run - New Art from New York - part VIII

By land, by sea, by air - they will do anything, drive anything, say anything and stop at nothing to win the Cannonball Run!

A hot summer day in June 1981 on a desert highway in Connecticut - thus was the starting point for a blazing cross- country car race in breakneck speed. Anything goes, when and his star-studded team embark on their madcap adventure. One by one, they set up by the starting line with one goal in mind – to cross the finish line in Los Angeles, whatever the cost!

Inspired by the film classic "The Cannonball Run" with an all-star cast including Burt Reynolds, , Farah Fawcett, and Sammy Davis Jr., this summer Gallery Poulsen has summoned our own start-studded team to Copenhagenʼs Brown Meatpacking District.

Equipped with meticulous brush strokes and eccentric tales on lavish canvases, an equally blazing race takes its starting point in New York. With one foot firmly placed on the accelerator, our formidable artist team has competed against time in order to complete a bold and adventurous race across the Atlantic. Nothing could hold them back as they blasted all boundaries along the way in their pursuit to deliver the superbly most magnificent masterpieces to Copenhagen.

We guarantee no slips when our international all-star team crosses the finish line on June 16th, torpedoing the Brown Meatpacking District with an aesthetic explosion of unrestrained ambitions, unpredictable color scales and dramatic narratives. Having reached their goal, we mark the result of a furiously good race with a massive visual victory!

The speed limit has long been exceeded and with 150 miles per hour we are invited on a both breathtaking and powerful ride into the exhibition that sends us through a fantastic assortment of Taylor Schultek's vividly flaming blaze, on the front seat of Stig Stasig's yellow Dodge, through the car window of Eric Whiteʼs cinematic parallel universe and beyond the abyss of John Jacobsmeyer's utopian world.

Each of our artists possesses very distinctive characteristics and a razor-sharp craftsmanship that ensures them to meet the target every single time! Jean-Pierre Roy's impressive "The Landscape Painter", which extends more than three meters above the wall, is an unrivaled example of this. Trembling intense geometry and incomparable futuristic landscapes send us through several time dimensions, leaving us completely speechless.

With his new masterpiece "Farm II Table", Christian Rex van Minnen once again proves that without the least hesitation, he breaks all norms and conventions in his quest to deliver convincingly vivid portraits of an inherent grotesque truth that infuse us with both disgust and deep fascination.

Fasten your seat belts – because you are in for quite a ride when we kick-off Gallery Poulsenʼs biggest, wildest, most daring summer show yet!

Meet three of Poulsenʼs Cannonballers; Jean-Pierre Roy, Aaron Johnson and John Jacobsmeyer, who will be present at the opening. The remaining team counts: Alfred Steiner, Angela Gram, Christian Rex van Minnen, Debra Hampton, Eric White, Mi Ju, Mu Pan, Nicola Verlato, Rainer Hosch, Stig Stasig, Taylor Schultek and William Powhida.

The exhibition presents 22 works on canvas, paper, panel and photography.
