  • Chinese Buyers Trickle Into NYC
Chinese buyers trickle into NYC Now added to the long list of exports from China are buyers of New York City real estate. Chinese residents flush with cash from the Asian nation's booming economy, and in some cases limited in what they can buy at home, are starting to look at Manhattan apartments. Between March 2010 and March 2011, 9 percent of foreign buyers in the U.S. were from China, according to the National Association of Realtors, up from 5 percent in 2007. Canada sends the U.S. the most foreign buyers, with 23 percent, but China is number two, the data shows. In contrast, England, Mexico and India, next on the list, each represent 7 percent. And many of those Chinese buyers are trickling into New York, say brokers, who are creating customized services to greet them. "They come, they look, they find, they sign, they go," said Asher Alcobi, president of Peter Ashe Real Estate, a firm that is representing about a half-dozen Chinese buyers, up from two of them five years ago. And that uptick has largely happened this year, after the Chinese government issued restrictions about buying vacation homes in that country, Alcobi said. But there may be simpler drivers, too. A Chinese couple recently bought a condo in Trump Soho New York -- a high-rise from a developer whose brand is well-liked in many parts of Asia, Alcobi explained -- because they wanted to be close to their son, who is a sophomore at Boston University. The unit, which will be used for two-week stays, cost about $1 million, he added.

Maryland Film Production Activity Tax Credit Annual Report Pursuant to Tax General Article §10-730 Submitted by Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development December 2014 Maryland Film Production Activity Tax Credit Overview CH 516 Acts of 2011 created the Film Production Activity Tax Credit (Film Tax Credit). The Act repealed the existing Film Production Rebate Program and replaced it with a tax credit for qualified direct costs of qualified film production activities including feature films and television series. Under the Film Tax Credit, the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) could award a maximum of $7.5 million in credits, in each fiscal year, beginning in FY 2012 through FY 2014. Qualifying production activities were eligible for a tax credit of up to 25% of the qualified direct costs for a feature film and 27% for a television series. If the amount of the tax credit exceeded the total tax liability in the tax year, the entity could claim a refund in the amount of the excess. The Act became effective on July 1, 2011 with a sunset date of June 30, 2014. A total of $22.5M ($7.5 per FY) in tax credits was available for FYs 2012 through 2014. All of those tax credits were committed to six productions by January 2012 to: House of Cards – Season 1; VEEP – Seasons 1 & 2; Jamesy Boy; Better Living through Chemistry; and, Ping Pong Summer. In order to retain the filming of the two television series House of Cards and VEEP in Maryland, CH 28 Acts of 2013 increased the Film Tax Credit by $32.5M over three years and extended the sunset through FY 2016.

It is a versatile, multi- mission aircraft with the opportunity to be used in a number of scenarios, particularly serving EMS operations. It will be a valuable addition to our fleet and we’re already in discussion with operators to place the aircraft into service as soon as they are available,” said Pat Sheedy, CEO of Milestone. “We are proud that a longstanding customer such as Milestone is renewing its trust once again in Airbus helicopters. Site Suitability Analysis for a New Franchise India Palace Restaurant in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Combining GIS Technologies and the Huff Gravity Model Ritu Shrestha Department of Resource Analysis, Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN 55404 Keywords: Geographic Information System (GIS), Franchising, Huff Gravity Model, Site Selection, Site Suitability, Geodemographic, India Palace Restaurant, Google Earth Pro, Pythagorean Theorem, Python, ArcMap Abstract The main objective of this study is to determine a new franchise location in the Twin Cities, Minnesota metropolitan area considering the critical factors that affect restaurant success. It is difficult to select the best-suited location to open a new restaurant. Deciding a suitable spot is the most important task for any business owner because it determines the future of the business, i.e. if it can make a profit. A geographic information system (GIS) is one of the most powerful tools currently utilized to assist in the selection of suitable locations. To conduct analysis, demographic information was obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau for the year 2010. Various analyses were conducted through GIS methods and the Huff Gravity model to determine attractiveness and market potential of trade areas. With the help of software and modern techniques, a suitable location was determined. Some discrepancies were observed between existing locations and areas deemed suitable. This may be due to factors unaccounted for this study such as environment, neighborhood, socio-economic conditions, quality and quantity of food, convenience and visibility. Having a broad understanding of site selection, combined with excellence in execution, is a winning combination for opening a new franchise location.

General Electric Partners With Leading Investors To Transform Gecis, its Global Business Processing Operation, into an Independent Company Move Will Enable Gecis to Pursue Global Demand for BPO Services Fairfield, Conn. (November 8, 2004) – General Electric today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement with two leading private-investment firms, General Atlantic Partners and Oak Hill Capital Partners, under which the firms will acquire a majority interest in GE Capital International Services (Gecis), GE’s global business- processing operation. Approximately 1,000 Gecis employees will remain with GE. The transaction, subject to customary approvals, values Gecis at $800 million. Upon closing, GE will retain a 40 percent stake in Gecis and receive cash proceeds of approximately $500 million, which it plans to use to fund growth initiatives. The parties aim to complete the transaction some time in the next six months. “This transaction allows us to offer our quality business-process services to an expanding roster of leading companies worldwide,” Bhasin said in making today’s announcement. “With accelerated growth, Gecis will provide expanded opportunities for employees and increased value for shareholders.
