DAY ONE: Saturday, April 11, 2020 – CALIFORNIA → NEW YORK CITY, NY (D) Morning Arrive at a Southern California Area airport (TBC) at least 2.5 hours before your departing flight. Upon arrival, meet your World Projects Tour Managers, who will assist with check-in. Check-in for your flight, pass through security, and proceed to your departure gate. Depart for New York City! Afternoon Arrive into a New York City area airport, proceed to baggage claim and collect your luggage. Transfer to a Midtown Manhattan hotel (possibly the Sheraton New York Times Square – TBC).

Iconic, hip, trendsetting, and ever-changing, New York City lives up to its superlatives. Underneath the Big Apple's jagged skyscraper skyline, museums dazzle with the latest collections, celebrity chefs unveil their newest creations, and Broadway continues to stage elaborate, glittering shows. Beyond the bustle, though, is a diverse population, taking the city in stride and friendlier than you were led to believe.

Check-in to your hotel and freshen up for dinner. Later, walk to dinner as a group. Evening Enjoy a Welcome Dinner as a group (possibly at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, home of the singing wait- staff – TBC). After dinner, return to the hotel.

DAY TWO: Sunday, April 12, 2020 – NEW YORK CITY (B,D) Morning Enjoy breakfast near the hotel (possibly at Applebee’s – TBC). After breakfast, load the coaches and transfer to Battery Park to enjoy a boat cruise to the Statue of Liberty National Monument and the Ellis Island National Immigration Museum (TBC).

Designated as a National Monument in 1924, "The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World" was a gift of friendship from France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. Ellis Island, in the Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the U.S. and was the nation’s busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 until 1954. Today, over 100 million Americans – about one-third of the population of the United States – can trace their ancestry to immigrants who arrived at Ellis Island.

Afternoon Later, return to Battery Park by ferry. Enjoy lunch on your own in the area. After lunch, meet your local tour guides, load the coaches and depart on a guided tour of Manhattan.

Your tour will take you to up Manhattan, to Fifth Avenue past the high-end shops, through neighborhoods such as Chelsea, Chinatown, and Greenwich Village, and Central Park where you can visit Strawberry Fields (which pays tribute to John Lennon),

Evening After your tour, enjoy a group dinner at a nearby restaurant (possibly John’s Pizzeria – TBC). After dinner, walk as a group to the Rockefeller Center to enjoy 360 degree views of NYC from the “Top of the Rock”! Following your visit, return to the hotel.

DAY THREE: Monday, April 13, 2020 – NEW YORK CITY (B,D) – Workshops & Performance Morning Enjoy breakfast near the hotel (possibly at Hard Rock Café – TBC).

CONCERT BAND – After breakfast, load the coaches with your instruments and transfer to a local area university to enjoy a workshop with a university faculty member (possibly with Jason Noble, Conductor of Columbia University Wind – subject to availability, TBC).

Jason Noble currently serves as Conductor of the Columbia University Wind Ensemble in New York, New York. Mr. Noble holds degrees from New York University (M.A., Music Education) and University of Miami (B.M., Music Education, magna cum laude) and is currently a doctoral candidate (Ed.D, Music Education) at Teachers College, Columbia University. Jason Noble is in frequent and high demand as a conductor, lecturer, band program consultant, and music performance adjudicator across the United States and internationally.

JAZZ BAND – After breakfast, load the coach with your instruments and transfer to Frederick P.Rose Hall to enjoy a workshop from a clinician as part of Jazz at the Lincoln Center’s Jazz Workshop program (subject to availability and acceptance – TBC).

ORCHESTRA – After breakfast, load the coaches with your instruments and transfer to a local area venue to enjoy a workshop with a local area clinician (possibly with Jeffrey Milarsky, Music Director and Conductor of the Columbia University Orchestra – subject to availability, TBC).

American conductor Jeffrey Milarsky is highly acclaimed worldwide for his impeccable musicianship, exhilarating presence, and innovative programming. He has been hailed for his interpretations in a wide range of repertoire, which spans from Bach to Xenakis. A dedicated teacher, Mr. Milarsky is a Senior Lecturer in Music at Columbia University, where he is the Music Director and Conductor of the Columbia University Orchestra. In addition to conducting the Juilliard Orchestra, he is the Music Director of AXIOM, The Juilliard School’s critically acclaimed contemporary music ensemble, and serves on the conducting faculty at Juilliard.

Afternoon Following your workshops, enjoy lunch in the area on your own. After lunch, load the coaches and transfer to Bryant Park (TBC). Enjoy your separate 30-minute, concert band, jazz band, and orchestra performances (weather permitting – TBC). Late Afternoon After your performances, return to the hotel to drop off instruments and freshen up for the evening. Evening Later, enjoy dinner as a group at a nearby restaurant (possibly Virgil’s Real BBQ – TBC). After dinner, load the coaches and transfer to David Geffen Hall Lincoln Center. Enjoy the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in concert (tickets to the value of $50 and subject to concert schedule and availability – TBC). After the concert, return to the hotel for the evening.

DAY FOUR: Tuesday, April 14, 2020 – NEW YORK CITY (B,D) – Morning Enjoy breakfast near the hotel (possibly at the Hard Rock Café – TBC). This morning, transfer to Radio City Music Hall to enjoy a guided tour (TBC). Afternoon Following your tour, enjoy free time to explore Times Square and to get lunch on your own in the area (in approved groups). Later, return to the hotel to freshen up for your evening. Evening Load the coaches and transfer to Chelsea Piers. Upon arrival, board the boat, and enjoy your group’s Dinner while cruising along the Hudson River! After the cruise, load the coaches and return to the hotel.

DAY FIVE: Wednesday, April 15, 2020 – NEW YORK CITY (B,D) – Performance Morning Enjoy breakfast near the hotel (possibly at Mama Sbarro – TBC). After breakfast, load the coaches and transfer to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a visit. After your visit, enjoy lunch on your own in the area (in approved groups). Afternoon After lunch, return to the hotel and change into concert attire. Meet in the lobby as a group and transfer to Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center. Enjoy your group’s soundcheck at Alice Tully Hall. Evening After your soundcheck, enjoy a group dinner at a nearby restaurant (possibly Buca di Beppo – TBC). After dinner, return to the venue. Enjoy your performance on stage at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center (subject to availability – TBC)! Following the concert, return to the hotel.

DAY SIX: Thursday, April 16, 2020 – NEW YORK CITY, NY → CALIFORNIA (B) Morning Enjoy breakfast near the hotel (possibly at Applebee’s – TBC). After breakfast, check-out of the hotel, load the coaches, and depart for the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

Dedicated on September 11, 2011 on the 10- year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington DC, the 9/11 Memorial consists of two massive pools set within the original footprints of the Twin Towers with 30-foot waterfalls cascading down their sides. The names of nearly 3,000 men, women, and children killed in the attacks are inscribed in bronze around the waterfalls.

Afternoon After your visit, enjoy lunch on your own in the area. After lunch, load the coaches and transfer to a New York City area airport. Upon arrival, check-in for your flight and move through security on to your departure gate. Depart for Southern California. Evening Arrive into a Southern California area airport, collect your luggage, and say goodbye to your World Projects Tour Managers. Return home via your own transportation.

NOTES:  Airfare: ESTIMATED Roundtrip Airfare has been included in the above costs. World Projects estimates that roundtrip economy class airfare from the Southern California area to New York City and return, will cost $500 per person based on 2019 rates. World Projects will source air seats once they become available in the summer of 2019 and inform Westlake High School on cost, itinerary, and payment schedule. Once booked, only the base fare is guaranteed – taxes and surcharges are subject to change until ticketing – should additional taxes or surcharges be levied, World Projects retains the right to pass on all such surcharges to Westlake High School.  Baggage Fees: Baggage fees are set by the individual airlines. Most airlines charge for first and second checked bags and for oversize / weight fees. Once an airline has been selected for travel, World Projects will inform Westlake High School of the selected airline’s baggage policies and current fees. World Projects has included the first checked bag fee to the value of $60 roundtrip, additional baggage fees are the responsibility of Westlake High School and will be due at the time of airport check-in.  Student Multi-Share: Students will be placed in mostly quad rooms with triples utilized as necessary / staff-chaperones will be placed in doubles or single rooms. Quad denotes four (4) people per room / two (2) double or queen beds per room. Triple denotes three (3) people per room / two (2) double or queen beds per room. Sharing beds will be necessary for quad and triple occupancy.  Payment Methods: Payments will be made through WeTravel. A 3% fee will be incurred on any payments that are made by credit card. Individual billing will apply.  Costs: Costs are based on 2019 costs. The quote is subject to availability of accommodations and vehicles at the time of booking.  Student Protection Plan: World Projects will purchase a Student Protection Plan (post departure) for all travelers. The director will be sent details about the plan.  Numbers: World Projects reserves the right to recost the tour should the number of travelers fall above or below the numbers shown above.  Required Forms: All travelers will be required to submit signed liability waivers and medical authorizations forms as issued by World Projects to participate in the tour.  Agreement: Once this tour has been deposited on, World Projects will require the group leader to sign a Performance Agreement which outlines the terms and conditions including tour costs, inclusions/exclusions and payment and cancellation schedule.
