Quality Shines at Goffs Orby Quality Colt Sparks Book 3 MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2015 QUALITY SHINES AT GOFFS ORBY QUALITY COLT SPARKS BOOK 3 OPENER by Kelsey Riley by Jessica Martini Four years ago, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby The first Book 3 session of the Keeneland September made a resolution for the company=s flagship Orby sale: Yearling sale got off to a measured start Sunday in to focus on quality. The new strategy was put into play Lexington, but action picked up throughout the day the following year, and since 2012 the Goffs Orby with a colt by Quality Road providing the biggest bang yearling sale has gone from strength-to-strength, with when selling for improvements in gross and average year-on-year. In $710,000 to Mark Reid 2012, despite 32 fewer horses being sold, the gross of Walnut Green. It was jumped almost i7 million and the average and median the highest price paid were up by a whopping 46.8% and 38.1%, for a Keeneland Book 3 respectively. AIt meant the sale was a more solid, steady sale than the year before.@ The Orby catalogue in 2012 was trimmed down to 400 yearlings when the sale was cut to two days from three, and the numbers have gradually climbed again to 487 for this year=s Orby sale, set for Sept. 29 and 30 in Co. Kildare. Beeby was adamant that the same standard of quality has been applied, and therefore expressed confidence of another strong sale. AThe reason we've gone from 450 to 487 is purely down to the quality,@ said Beeby, noting that the Irish breeders have been entrusting Goffs with more of their best yearlings. AWe looked at just shy of 500 more yearlings this year, and as has been the case the last few years I just said to all the inspectors, >forget about the numbers, go and find the horses and make sure they're of a certain quality.' Whether that was slightly more or slightly less, I didn't care. So we've ended up with 37 more horses than last year.@ Cont. p8 TDN TODAY Headline News.. 19 pages >> nytbreeders.org | 518.587.0777 Get with the Program! A New Examination of the Arch of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus at Oea Abstract The ra ch dedicated to Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus at Oea was an important component in that town’s building activity. By situating the arch within its socio-historical context and acknowledging the political identity of Oea and nearby towns, this article shows that the arch at Oea far surpassed nearby contemporary arches in style, material, and execution. Further, this article demonstrates that the arch was a key element in Oea’s Roman identity. Finally, the article bridges disciplinary boundaries by bringing together art historical analysis with the concepts of euergetism, Roman civic status, and inter-city rivalry in the Roman Empire.
