  • Designing an Interactive Game to Encourage Cognitive Empathy As a Bullying Prevention Tool
International Journal of Engineering & Technology, 7 (4.19) (2018) 144-157 International Journal of Engineering & Technology Website: www.sciencepubco.com/index.php/IJET Research paper Designing an Interactive Game to Encourage Cognitive Empathy as a Bullying Prevention Tool Hanif Baharin1*, ShukorSanimMohdFauzi2, Azlina Ahmad3, Fazillah Mohmad Kamal4 1,3Institute of Visual Informatics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, 2UniversitiTeknologi MARA 4Faculty of Quantitative Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia *Corresponding Author Email: [email protected] Abstract Bullying can have detrimental consequences to the victims, hence there is a need for bullying prevention programs at school. In this paper, we describe a gameplay model which may be usedto elicit cognitive empathy as a part of anti-bullying program among schoolchildren. We interviewed 79 schoolchildren from four schools in order to find out their understanding of bullying and their play behavior, and we observed their play behaviorduring recess. We found that most schoolchildren in our study instinctively know that bullying is wrong because it hurt others but attributethe consequences to self as imposed by authorities as the reason why hurting others is wrong. We argue that, this shows that they demonstrate affective empathy but would benefit from cognitive empathy training. From our findings we came out with design guidelines and produced a bullying morality conceptual model, which then informed our gameplay model. To validate the gameplay model, we designed and tested an indoor physical computing game prototype that encourages player to collectively exercise their cognitive empathy. The results from our game testing shows that the game mechanics proposed in our gameplay model do encourage players to exercise the empathy.

  • Physics 4311 ANSWERS: Sample Problems for Exam #2 (1)Short
Physics 4311 ANSWERS: Sample Problems for Exam #2 (1)Short answer questions: (a) Consider an isolated system that consists of several subsystems interacting thermally and mechanically with each other. What does the Second Law of Thermodynamics say about the entropies of the subsystems when the system is undergoing a change? ANS: The Second Law says that the sum of the subsystem entropy changes can never decrease. It doesn’t say anything about the change for any individual subsystem. (b) Two thermally interacting subsystems form a thermally isolated composite system. The subsystems have identical total energies and pressures, but different values of $. Will net heat transfer occur between the subsystems, and if so, in which direction will it occur? ANS: Since the $ values are different, the subsystems are not in thermal equilibrium, and heat transfer will occur. Energy will be transferred from the subsystem with the lower value of $ to the subsystem with the higher value of $. (c) Briefly describe what happens to a macroscopic system’s microscopic quantum states and how the states are populated when the system’s energy changes by means of heat transfer or when work is done on (or by) the system. Use words not equations. ANS: Heat transfer changes which states are occupied, but doesn’t affect the energies of the states. Work changes the energies of the states. States may also be created or destroyed by varying external system parameters, i.e., by doing work. (d) When a system undergoes an adiabatic change of state, what must happen for its energy to change? ANS: For an adiabatic change, Q = 0, and the First Law states that )E = !W.

  • Ideas for Children's Party Games
Northall Village Hall Management Committee Ideas for Children’s Party Games Northall Village Hall is a very popular venue for children’s birthday parties with lots of green space outside to run around, child-size tables and chairs inside, and an array of outdoor play equipment. Children’s entertainers can be expensive, so why not organise your own traditional party games? Below are some ideas to get you started and if you have others to add, we would be pleased to hear from you by email to [email protected] or [email protected] Notes to go with Party Games 1. You will need help. At least 2 adults – one to supervise and another to help with judging who is first, help little ones etc. 2. Don’t have games where children are “out”. Give out beans instead and then have a count at the end and one with most (or least) is the winner, but they all play all the time. 3. Don’t play each game too long. About 10 minutes max with explaining game and clearing up extra time. If games get out of hand children are probably bored and it has gone on too long. Play something else. 4. If children don’t want to join in, let them help with giving out beans, blowing whistle, putting out props etc.etc. – or if they just want to watch – let them. They will probably join in once they see what fun the others are having. 5. Keep up the momentum. Don’t have gaps. Have the next game ready to go as the previous one ends (this is where the help comes in!).

  • Games and Activities of Early Settlement Children
GAMES AND ACTIVITIES OF EARLY SETTLEMENT CHILDREN There were several games played by pioneer children that are still played today in homes, schools, and on the playground. Hide-and-Seek, baseball, jump rope, tag, and string games are just a few. Word games were played both at home and at school, because these games helped the children to learn language skills. Games involving guessing were also popular, because these games were good brain exercises and helped students develop their thinking skills. OUTDOOR GAMES Recess was a time where several group games were played. Boys and girls sometimes played games together at recess. The game of Fox and Geese was played in the snow where the students cleared paths in the snow in the shape of a spoked wheel. They then chose one person to be the fox. The fox tried to tag the rest of the players, who were the geese. All the players had to stay within the paths of the wheel. Whoever was tagged by the fox then became the fox and had to chase the geese. An alternative to playing in the snow is to mark four squares on the playground 10 feet across each square. Every player stands on one of the lines forming the square. A signal is given and the person who is “it” has 10 seconds to touch as many players as he/she can. Players who are tagged sit down in the marked area. All players must stay on the line while being chased. Shadow Tag was a game played on bright, sunny days.
