(footpath between Parley Sports Club and Oakland Walk). A Volunteer Chain Saw gang and helpers has made a start on the removal of the large tree stumps left in the ground or lying on the surface. Logs produced from this work are available to residents. The ground will soon be ready for clearing of tree roots and the installation of paths, signs and other amenities for visitors to Parley Wood. Parley Wood Work by our Working Parties, following the advice detailed in the Management Plan produced by the East Dorset Countryside management team, has continued in Parley Wood to remove the invasive holly etc. in the Western section of Parley Wood. This will encourage a much better ground cover to develop and allow us to arrange some attractive walks in the wood. Anyone wishing to help with this work will be warmly welcomed. We are currently meeting on Saturday mornings every 4 weeks Please contact [email protected] to offer help. 3 new footbridges will shortly be placed across the streams at the entrances to the wood. Tree planting in main road verges We shall shortly be planting about 20 trees on the verges of the main roads leading into Parley Cross.     DINGS CRUSADERS v RAMS Saturday 2nd March 2019 NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO SOUTH OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME DINGS www.dingscrusaders.co.uk CRUSADERS RFC A CLUB WITH ITS HEART IN BRISTOL 1 Welcome Today we extend a warm welcome to Rams Rugby for what I believe to be the first ever meeting between the two clubs in Bristol. Rams were formally known as Redingensians RFC, but my guess is anyone who knows their rugby stuff will already know this so I wont go over it again. Rams arrive sitting at the top of the league in a well-deserved position, although I guess they will say it’s not over yet. But I think it was a done deal a few weeks ago, with their latest loss coming at Tonbridge who are now pushing to finish in the runners-up spot. So today, it’s the league-leaders against a Dings side looking to continue their recent good home form. Dings will need to be at their very best if they are to cause the upset of the season against the run-away Rams, but either way, we’re expecting another high quality rugby match to take place here at Shaftesbury Park. The last two weeks playing away from home and losing to Barnes and Old Albanians meant the excellent performance against a solid Bury St Edmunds team was just a distant memory. The team itself has been disrupted of late with injuries and non availabilities and I think again today it will be a side showing some new faces, so it will be down to the coaches to ensure that all Dings lads understand what’s expected of them.

I’m sure you would agree quite a ground breaking moment, as another aspect of life gives in to the ever growing power of the technological age. It is quite an honour for myself, a Bournemouth University placement student, to be so heavily involved in the production of what I have been told is an extremely popular publication within Dorset Cricket. And so it should be. Previous editions of the yearbook have acted as a template for the format of this year’s publication; however I have noticed that this is not where their purpose ends. Each edition published adds to the vast archive of records, statistics, photographs and memories I believe dating back to the early 1970s and beyond. A true collectible for the people of Dorset. It has also been discussed that previous version will be converted to digitalised copies like this one; however that is another job for another day! As you make your way through the yearbook, you will undoubtedly notice a recurring theme throughout; the Great British weather. As 2012 has recently been declared the wettest year since records began (and what a record breaking first year that was may I add), it’s a surprise that as much cricket got played as it did.

Bournemouth travel to Bristol not having the best of seasons so far, but I read they are in no way taking anything for granted and will hope today could be the start of their rise from the dead, so to speak. But, nevertheless, I welcome all supporters whether home and or way. Looking at their results shows they’ve been unlucky on a number of occasions when the game could have gone either way. Let’s hope the weather stays fine and we put the past couple of weeks of disruptive conditions behind us. The past two weeks have been and gone, with the eagerly anticipated clash with our local rivals Old Redcliffians falling foul to the weather at exactly nine-minutes before kick off. Now I’m not one to moan, but I cannot fathom how the predicted weather forecast changed from 1.00pm to just before kick-off. It did what it said on the tin and rained incessantly, so why it was not called off beforehand is beyond me, and all those who had made the intrepid journey into deepest South Bristol would have been disappointed as we were due to field a strong side and were keen to play.

    By NEALE HARVEY At the Imperial Recreation Ground in Exmouth stands a sobering reminder of when, exactly one year ago today, the onrushing coronavirus pandemic halted rugby across the country. Exmouth Rugby Club’s first team had just beaten South West Premier rivals Weston-super-Mare 28-27 in a thriller to pretty much banish any fears of relegation, and yet instead of a post-match celebration, talk in the clubhouse afterwards quickly gave way to a sense of impending doom. Twelve months on, the matchday sign advertising that great game remains on display, offering the starkest of reminders of a moment lost in time. Along with the rest of England’s 1,900 community clubs, the denizens of Exmouth are looking to the future with a degree of trepidation. Community rugby remains on a knife-edge and Nick Smith, Exmouth’s director of rugby and a former Marine, speaks for many clubs below the professional level when he tells The Rugby Paper: “If we don’t start this September and it’s put off again, then I really do fear for amateur rugby. “Player-wise, we did okay to start with last year and actually got some good training in over the summer, with some touch tournaments. But then it all got knocked on the head again and I just don’t know what’s going to happen with the 29 or 30- year-olds who’ve had a year off. “Their wives, girlfriends and kids have got used to having them about and with the gyms being closed as well, their bodies have lost their conditioning for rugby.
