Garber also excelled at etching and taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for over forty years. Daniel Garber (1880-1958) was born in 1880 in Indiana and studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in Ohio (1897) before moving to Philadelphia to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1899-1905). Garber met Mary Franklin, a fellow art student, in Philadelphia and they were married. After traveling through Europe, the couple returned to the United States in 1907 and settled in Cuttalossa, just downriver from Lumberville in Solebury Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Garber's style combined realism and fantasy, precise draftsmanship and decorative technique, emblazoning all in vibrant, shimmering colors. A landscape artist, Garber was best known for his paintings of Bucks County woods and quarries. To a greater extent than many of his New Hope colleagues, Garber also achieved recognition as a figure painter. A leading instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for over forty years, Garber influenced younger generations of painters, as well. Garber died in 1958. Bibliography: James A.
