Garber also excelled at etching and taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for over forty years. Daniel Garber photographs, negatives, and exhibition catalogs, circa 1900s-1945, consist of exhibition catalogs, portrait and other photographs, negatives, slides, and glass plate negatives.

Biographical/Historical Note
Daniel Garber (1880-1958) was a painter best known for his landscapes and scenic paintings of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Garber also excelled at etching and taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for over forty years. Daniel Garber (1880-1958) was born in 1880 in Indiana and studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in Ohio (1897) before moving to Philadelphia to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1899-1905). Garber met Mary Franklin, a fellow art student, in Philadelphia and they were married. After traveling through Europe, the couple returned to the United States in 1907 and settled in Cuttalossa, just downriver from Lumberville in Solebury Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Garber's style combined realism and fantasy, precise draftsmanship and decorative technique, emblazoning all in vibrant, shimmering colors. A landscape artist, Garber was best known for his paintings of Bucks County woods and quarries. To a greater extent than many of his New Hope colleagues, Garber also achieved recognition as a figure painter. A leading instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for over forty years, Garber influenced younger generations of painters, as well. Garber died in 1958. Bibliography: James A. Scope and Content Note
Daniel Garber photographs, negatives, and exhibition catalogs, circa 1900s-1945, consist of exhibition catalogs, portrait and other photographs, negatives, slides, and glass plate negatives. The exhibition catalogs are from the 1930s and 1940s. The slides are of his artwork. The glass plate negatives contain at least one image of his artwork, possibly some landscape images he used as reference material, and some people. The photographs are of Garber, including four portraits of him, and other people. The negatives contain images of farm animals, artwork, and people. A more detailed finding aid, biographical note, or inventory for this collection may be available on-site.
