ILR Special Event Lunch Bunch Luncheon & NASA Speaker Friday, October 12, 2018

Come and join fellow ILR members for a delicious luncheon buffet and a Speaker from NASA. It will be held in the Colony Room of Strosacker Hall on Friday, October 12th from 11:30am to 2pm. Doors open at 11am, lunch begins at 11:30am and our speaker is scheduled for 12:30pm .

Our speaker is James Soeder, the Senior Technical Fellow for power at the John H. Glenn Research Center. His presentation is Flexible Path for Human Exploration. The idea of human has been a topic in science fiction for close to a century. For the past 45 years, the idea of returning to the and traveling to has been a major thrust in NASA's space mission planning. Currently, NASA is pursuing a flexible development path with the final goal to have humans on Mars. To reach Mars, new hardware will have to be developed and many technology hurdles will have to be overcome. This presentation discusses the Moon, Mars and the flexible path currently being followed to get there along with the hardware under development to support exploration and the technical and organizational challenges that must be overcome to realize the age-old dream of humans traveling beyond low earth orbit.
