Peter Pindar Stearns The Calling The Work of the People video Welcome to Park Place Pastor Joshua Mifflin Songs of Call and Praise “You Make Me Brave” (Cook) I stand before You now, the greatness of Your renown. I have heard of the majesty and wonder of You. King of Heaven in humility I bow. As Your love, in wave, after wave, crashes over me, crashes over me. For You are for us, You are not against us. Champion of Heaven You made a way for all to enter in. I have heard You calling my name. I have heard the song of love that You sing So I will let You draw me out beyond the shore into Your grace. You make me brave. You make me brave. You call me out beyond the shore into the waves. You make me brave. You make me brave. No fear can hinder now the Love that made a way. © 2013 Bethel Music Publishing CCLI # 600272 “Shout to the Lord” (Zschech) My Jesus, my Savior, Lord there is none like You; All of my days I want to praise the wonders of Your mighty love. My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength; Let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You. Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing. Power and majesty, praise to the King. Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name. I sing for joy at the work of Your hands, Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand, Nothing compares to the promise I have in You. © 1993 Wondrous Worship (Admin. by Music Services, Inc.) CCLI # 600272 Call to Prayer Pastor Joshua Mifflin Song of Prayer “Goodness of God” (Johnson, Cash, Ingram, Fielding, Johnson) I love You Lord. Oh, Your mercy never fails me. All my days I've been held in Your hands From the moment that I wake up until I lay my head, I will sing of the goodness of God. All my life You have been faithful. All my life You have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able I will sing of the goodness of God. I love Your voice. You have led me through the fire. In darkest night, You are close like no other. I've known You as a father, I've known You as a friend. I have lived in the goodness of God. Your goodness is running after, It’s running after me. Your goodness is running after, It’s running after me. With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now; I give You everything; Your goodness is running after, It's running after me. © 2018 Alletrop Music (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing) CCLI # 600272 Prayers of the People Jim Hawkins We join John and Gwen Johnson at the altar today to voice a prayer of blessing for them as they prepare to leave for Egypt to begin their assignment as Africa Regional Coordinators. Notice Jesus’ simple and direct statement to Philip: “follow me.” What does that statement mean to you? What is your response to it? • The word follow means to “come after or go behind,” which is not always an easy thing to do. In what situations do you find it difficult to follow? • Take a few moments and reflect on these two quotes: o “Discipleship is a relationship where I stand into Jesus Christ in order that I might take on his character. As his disciple I am learning from him how to live my life in the Kingdom as he would if he were I. The natural outcome is that my behavior is transformed. Increasingly, I routinely and easily do the things he said and did.” --Dallas Willard o “Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ. Without discipleship Christianity doesn’t exist.” --Dietrich Bonhoeffer o How would you describe your own discipleship journey right now? How are you doing at following Jesus? • Be sure to see our FOLLOW 1-2-3-4 resource on the Church website at: https://www.ppchog.org/worship Park Place Church of God Sunday, January 17, 2021 Reflect and Renew Allen Lucas Staff Organist Prelude on “Nettleton” -- arr.
