As the fi rst and leading Swedish-American Chamber, SACC New York has a mission to promote and increase trade and investments between the U.S. and Sweden by providing member companies and clients with a wide range of transatlantic business contacts, services, and information.

One of the most important features of the Chamber is the strength derived from its unique network of members. Industry leaders, business executives, lawyers, bankers, as well as an impressive number of entrepreneurs are actively engaged in the organization. The focus is to give members a promotional platform with high visibility and to provide expert consulting services.

For more than a century, the Chamber’s meetings and events have served an important role in the Swedish-American business community. Each year, SACC New York hosts a number of exclusive conferences, informal seminars, speaker luncheons, week-long delegations, traditional Swedish events, and black-tie galas.

Developing a powerful brand identity is more important than ever, and these creative leaders will be articulating these challenges. Our second session “How to Lead the Young Generation and Meet their Expectations” is led by a stellar panel of executives. Anticipate a lively exploration of young culture, values, lifestyle and ways to engage this critical audience.

In the last panel “Do Women Managers Shine in a Downturn”, the six panelists bring ex- perience, accomplishment, and vision to this timely and important topic. With panel dis- cussions and special presentations, including our pre-conference workshop with Dr. Dag- mar O’Connor, we look forward to a chance to learn and network with truly exceptional women.

The Chamber is very pleased to announce its Fourth Annual Mentor Award. This is a very special award, given to a man who supports and encourages women in business and en- trepreneurship. This year we are proud to present the award to Börje Ekholm, President and CEO, Investor AB.

Mr. Ekholm became President and CEO of Investor in 2005 and the company has ever since shown great initiatives in recruiting women to all levels of the organization.

When recruiting new employees, Investor always emphasizes that they are looking for both men and women. Mr. Ekholm is furthermore strongly supporting Investor’s part-owned re- cruiting company, Novare Management Program, designed for women executives only. “We are delighted to present the 2009 Mentor of the Year Award to one of Sweden’s most prominent and admired business leaders. We hope that his momentous initiatives will inspire many to follow in his foot steps,” says Renée Lundholm, President of SACC New York.

Each year, the Mentor of the Year Award is presented to a man who has encouraged and supported women in business throughout his career. Previous winners are Dr. Percy Barnevik, Chairman of Hand in Hand, Rune Borg, Rune Borg AB and Christian W. Jansson, Managing Director of KappAhl. The Award itself is an intriguing glass vase by famous Swedish artist, Peter Åström, who has designed this unique piece especially for this occasion.

Welcome to join the 2010 Mentor Program

SACC New York is pleased to celebrate the fourth year of its Mentor Program for Women in International Business. The popular program provides support to young women working in business fi elds by pairing them with experienced professionals from our Executive Women’s network. The program grew out of our Annual Executive Women’s Conference, which continues to grow in popularity each year.

Since the Chamber launched the initiative in 2007, the program has impressively increased in size from 38 to 47 participants. SACC New York expects to attract an even greater number of mentors and mentees in 2010. As part of the year-long program, the mentors and their mentees meet regularly to share experiences, trade insights, and give advice about their professional successes. Pairing young women professionals with experienced business leaders has proven to be a fulfi lling experience for both mentors and mentees.

The mentor program is headed by Yvonne Thunell, a professional executive coach and a developer of corporate leadership programs. Ms. Thunell, in collaboration with her consulting fi rm, Thunell, Odhnoff Sundström and Partners, offers participants years of expertise in mentoring and career coaching. The program, which is run in Stockholm and New York, also includes a series of seminars on international leadership.

Mentors: ““It has been a great opportunity to refl ect over my own career and future development. The program also gives an opportunity to learn how other successful women are managing their careers, family, and business opportunities”

Anita Karlsson-Dion, Vice President, Finance and Operations, IBM

“The surprising thing about being a mentor is that you don’t expect that you, too, will learn and grow from the experience. The SACC New York program has assembled an impressive group of women whose success never fails to inspire me. The mentors are examples that, still, it’s possible to succeed - and more, that it is possible to succeed on a global, multi-national scale.”

Cole Ruth, Communications and Brand Manager, Skanska USA

Mentees:

“The program broadened my perspective on my career and thought processes, as well as on my demands and expectations. It is an exceptional opportunity to have uniquely in-depth discussions.”

Susanna Francke, Brand Manager, Pfi zer AB

“I have really gained a lot of insights. Getting to know so many women in senior roles both as mentees and mentors – and on a professional and personal level – has been great and valuable.”

Angelica Wadeborn, Head of Marketing, Marsh & McLennan Co.
