Motion Graphics Pack for Apple

Boris Pack is a bundle of Boris RED and CONTINUUM Complete.

Boris RED adds motion graphic features that are not otherwise available inside Apple® Final Cut Pro™: four-point motion tracking with corner pinning, vector paint, rotoscoping, EPS file import, , and extrusion, extruded text, and true 3D compositing.

CONTINUUM Complete’s 110 filters provide the widest range of compositing, image processing, keying, , distortion and temporal effects offered for Apple Final Cut Pro - all using Apple Final Cut Pro’s native filter interface.

This powerful 3D compositing, titling, and effects bundle delivers a unique combination of unmatched features and unparalleled performance to Apple Final Cut Pro.

Boris CONTINUUM Complete (BCC) Boris CONTINUUM Complete is the most extensive filter set ever created for Apple Final Cut Pro. BCC provides dozens of filters not found in Final Cut Pro and expands the capabilities of existing Final Cut Pro filters and features.

Compositing While Final Cut Pro includes compositing apply modes, BCC adds the unique ability to animate and mix apply modes in a single layer. This lets editors soften the effect of an apply mode, combine apply modes, or transition from one apply mode to another.

3D DVE BCC allows editors to create a 3D compositing environment inside Final Cut Pro, including 3D tumble and spin, animated lights and perspective camera.

Z Space In addition to animating individual elements in 3D space, BCC allows planes (including video) and spheres (to which video can be mapped) to interact and intersect with soft cast shadows, with precise rendering.

Shapes Using BCC, editors can map video and graphics to shapes with far greater control than is otherwise available -- including the ability to animate shapes in fully three-dimensional space, with precise control over animated lighting and perspective.

PixelChooser™ PixelChooser is a unique masking and matte creation tool that is included in many CONTINUUM Complete filters. Channel- based mattes restrict the affect of a filter to specific channels, including luminance and alpha. Region-based selections – including rectangular, oval, and distance from a specific point – apply the filter to a specific area of the image. A region-based selection can be used as a garbage matte and combined with a channel-based selection for an even more precise effect. PixelChooser is useful for a wide variety of filters, such as CONTINUUM Complete’s Mosaic filter, which the editor would often want to apply only to a specific portion of the frame.

Time Filters BCC provides a wide variety of time effects, including:

• Velocity Remap to create smoothly ramping speed changes. • Temporal Blur to blurs frames across time. • Time Displacement: displacement map that operates in time instead of in space. • Optical Flow to create exceptionally smooth motion effects or retime footage.

Nature Effects. Nature effects include auto-animating Clouds, Fire, Rain, Snow, and Stars. All nature effects contain alpha channel support and the ability to interact with elements in other layers, such as alpha channels. For example, using Snow, editors can create drifts or make flakes pile along the edges of an alpha channel.

Lighting Filters BCC lighting filters include true 3D modeled spotlights with controls over the light's color and apply mode. These lighting filters also contain the ability to only shine in the alpha channel, allowing editors to create sophisticated compositing effects.

Graphic and Creation Rather than applying effects to video, a number of BCC filters can generate new media based on procedural textures. These Generator filters include Bump Map, Granite, Veined Marble, Reptilian and Steel Plate. All BCC Generator filters can also be composited over underlying media with over two-dozen animated apply modes.

Particle Effects 2D and 3D particle effects can create dynamic transitions or graphic elements. BCC also features a sophisticated 3D particle system with animated custom particle shapes, integrated cameras, and full interactivity with alpha channels, frame edges, and other particles.

Displacement Maps. The Displacement Map filter uses the luminance or color information from an alternate video or still image to displace the pixels in the source image horizontally and vertically. Additional displacement filters animate this effect from the center of the frame outward (Polar Displacement) or separately in each color channel (Vector Displacement).

Boris RED Boris RED brings unique workflow advantages to Apple Final Cut Pro, including plug-in integration, the unique ability to apply RED as a generator as well as a filter, KeyFramer™ for offline effects creation, the Boris Effects Library Browser, standalone compositing with Automatic Duck™ support, and OpenGL acceleration. RED also adds motion graphic features that are not otherwise available inside Apple Final Cut Pro, including four-point motion tracking with corner pinning, vector paint, rotoscoping, EPS file import, animation, and extrusion, extruded text, and true 3D compositing.

Plug-in Integration Using RED as a plug-in, editors can preview effects with NLE video – with near real-time playback. No importing or exporting is required, saving time and increasing productivity.

Effects Library Browser RED’s Effects Library Browser allows editors to quickly preview and apply settings files from the KeyFrame Library, a collection of thousands of preset effects that is installed with RED. Presets can be added, removed or customized at any time.

RED as a Generator Boris RED uniquely integrates with Final Cut Pro as a generator, offering convenient workflow, faster rendering, and real-time playback for many types of effects.

Accessing RED a generator, editors can creative synthetic media – such as text – that can be edited on a separate track over a video track in the Final Cut Pro timeline. For example, an editor can create a title in RED – without including background video as part of the effect setting – and achieve much faster rendering of the title. In addition to faster rendering, using RED as a generator allows editors to avoid image degradation that is inherent to some codecs and rendering processes.

Final Cut Pro also supports real-time playback of generators. Editors working in DV projects or with supported real-time cards can create a title, place the title in the Final

Boris FX http://www.borisfx.com 3 Cut Pro timeline, and then use the Final Cut Pro Motion Tab to move, scale, or fade the title in real-time. For example, an editor can design a lower third – using powerful text styles or even 3D extruded text – edit it in the Final Cut Pro timeline, and then slide the title from off-screen to fade off at the end of the shot – all without rendering.

KeyFramer for Offline Effects Creation KeyFramer is a standalone application designed to create Boris RED effects offline using any computer. The KeyFramer is cross-platform and can be duplicated and distributed free of charge. Instead of video from the Final Cut Pro timeline, the KeyFramer uses proxy images. Still image, EPS, and movie files can be imported and color, gradient, natural, text, or spline media can be created inside of KeyFramer.

Once editors create effects in KeyFramer, they save the settings to render in the RED plug-in. When they open these settings in Final Cut Pro, they can still make adjustments before rendering. For example, the editor can use KeyFramer to create long credit rolls. This avoids tying up the editing system for long periods of time and reduces the risk of typographical errors. It is especially useful if the person responsible for the accuracy of the content is not the person who will create the roll. Editors save the styles that they use for the credit roll in the Style Palette. Then they can quickly format long credit rolls.

Standalone Compositing with Automatic Duck Instead of creating composites inside of Final Cut Pro, editors may use Automatic Duck1 to export an entire Final Cut Pro timeline to the standalone RED Engine. After compositing work is completed, the editor can easily access the RED composition inside of Final Cut Pro – using the RED plug-in. Because RED is available both as a standalone application and plug-in, no additional exporting or importing is required.

OpenGL Acceleration RED is the first integrated 3D compositing, titling, and effects application to implement OpenGL hardware acceleration2, delivering unprecedented compositing performance.

Intelligent Assistant for Boris RED Directly accessible from the Help menu of RED, this revolutionary online help system offers the equivalent of 600 of text as well as over 2.5 hours of narrated video to provide as much or as little detail as you need for any kind of task.

Vector Paint Boris RED’s Vector Paint adds features not available in other compositing applications. Any path created using RED’s vector tools – or any path imported from Adobe® Illustrator™ – can be stroked or filled in a variety of ways. Apply multiple strokes along the center, inside or outside of the path with adjustable preset styles such as bevel and glow – which can be animated over time. Each stroked path can also have multiple shadows (drop, cast, and solid) whose parameters can be animated over time.

Unlike other compositing application, RED’s vector paint features allow paths to be filled. Because paint exists on its own layer, color and opacity of the fill can be positioned in 3D space, filtered, and animated like any other layer in RED.

Boris FX http://www.borisfx.com 4 Boris RED’s unique Write On feature automatically animates the start and end point of multiple brush strokes to create the illusion of hand-drawn paint with unparalleled ease.

Using RED’s Style Palette, editors can save paint objects with customized fill and strokes to apply to any subsequently created vector paths.

EPS File Import, Animation, Extrusion Boris RED allows editors to import and extrude EPS files created in Adobe Illustrator. EPS files are vector-based graphics that can be resized and rotated without losing any quality.

Editors can then convert the EPS files to spline objects and edit and animate border, fill, and bézier control points in RED. Any or all layers can be extruded. RED also allows access to the original layer information in the imported media.

Animated Text on a Path With RED, editors can not only move text on a path, but also animate the path shape and text position over time. Creates paths in RED or copy paths from Adobe Illustrator.

Extruded Text RED can create true 3D text with reflection mapping and multiple cameras. Textures or custom materials such as glass or aluminum can be applied to surfaces with precise control over material properties. Extruded text can be easily animated in 3D space.

Motion Tracking RED’s precise motion tracking and image stabilization filters provide up to four trackers per layer with superior subpixel accuracy. Using unique PixelChooser technology, editors can apply the tracking data to any of RED’s image processing filters. For example, a blur can be tracked over someone’s face or a logo.

Rotoscoping By combining the precision of vector tools for creating spline objects with an exceptional range of options for animating them, RED offers superior tools for rotoscoping: creating and animating precise, custom vector masks. Masks can be inverted with one click and animated with motion blur. Any parameter related to strokes and fill used to comprise the mask can be animated, including softness, opacity, composite modes and jitter. Editors can observe changes across multiple frames using onion-skin views.

True 3D Compositing Flat or extruded planes, spheres, and shapes can intersect and interact in three dimensions, with full scene lighting, reflection maps, procedural textures, and multiple cameras. True 3D compositing allows Final Cut Pro editors to create complex, realistic scenes and environments.

Boris Motion Graphics Pack Because BCC filters have no interface of their own, they can only operate inside host applications such as Apple Final Cut Pro. BCC features are limited to those features that can be represented in Final Cut Pro's native plug-in architecture.

For example, BCC does not provide text on a path because Final Cut Pro’s plug-in architecture does not make a Pen tool available for vector animation. This is one of the many features possible inside of Final Cut Pro using RED's interface.

While RED’s custom interface introduces an additional learning curve, it offers easy access to exactly the kinds of interface-intensive effects that editors frequently need to create in Final Cut Pro, such as advanced titles, motion tracking, corner pinning, vector paint, EPS file animation and extrusion, and 3D animation. Because it has its own interface, RED may be used as both a plug-in and as a standalone application

As FCP filters, BCC has virtually no learning curve: any user who can apply a filter in Final Cut Pro can immediately take advantage of BCC’s advanced effects creation.

The combination of CONTINUUM Complete for native filters and RED for advanced effects work so well together that we've combined them to create the Boris Motion Graphics Pack, featuring the widest range of creative possibilities ever offered in a single package at prices below those of comparable effects solutions.
