Smithsonian Contributions to Botany, number 35, 18 pages, 11 figures, 1976.-Four species of the brown algal genus Colpomenza Derbes et Solier (Scytosiphonales) are recognized as occurring within the Gulf of California: C. sinuosa (Roth) Derbes et Solier, C. tziberculata Saunders, C. ramosa Taylor, and C. phaeodartyla, new species. Some of the specimens interpreted by Dawson (1944) as Rosenvingea intricata are now re- ferred to C. ramosa Taylor. Although recorded from the Pacific coast of Baja California, C. ramosa has not yet been reported within the Gulf. Interrelation- ships of the species complex of Colpomenia with related genera such as Iyen- garia Boergesen, Rosenvingea Boergesen, and Scytosiphon C. Agardh are dis- cussed. They included one new species, C. hasanainii Aisha et Shameel, which differed from all the existing species. Kylin, since 1925, has made studies of the marine forms, especially the Rhodophyceae in Puget Sound,1 and of the California coast in the vicinity of the Hopkins Marine Station? Others who have contributed to our knowledge of the marine algae of the Pacific coast of the United States are :DeAlton Saunders and Annie Mae Hurd, Vinnie Pease, George B. Rigg, T. C. Frye, and others who have been associated with the Puget Sound Biological Sta- tion at Friday Harbor, Washington. G. M. Smith has just completed a study of the marine algae of the Monterey Peninsula, California,3 and J. G. Hollenberg has contributed much to our knowledge of the life histories and distribution of certain of the Phaeophyceae and Rhodophyceae that are found in southern California. -

Seaweeds attached to the boulders, jetties, rocks on the shores, stones, pebbles, fishing nets and pneumatophores of mangrove were removed by scrapping and collected monthly from June 2013 to May 2015 during spring low tides. 19 species of seaweeds representing 16 genera, 15 families and 13 orders were identified from Uran coast. Of these, 7 species belongs each to Chlorophyta and Rhodophyta, 2 each to Cyanobacteria and Ochrophyta and 1 to Charophyta. Maximum species diversity of seaweeds is recorded during pre-monsoon and post-monsoon than monsoon periods at all sites. -

Two other species, Agardhiella subulata and Codium fragile subsp. fragile that were not, or were sporadically, detected in the basin since their first record in 1987 and 2002, respectively, were also recorded. In the Mar Piccolo, there appears to be a close link between establishment of alien species and the regular import of shellfish for direct sale. To limit the flow of accidental species introductions, a continuous and rigorous control of all the economic activities performed along the coast is recommended through the enforcement of effective laws and an early detection of new introductions.
