A House in the City – in the Context of Secession Aesthetics
MaRia MaLzacheR* a hoUse in the citY – in the conteXt oF secession aesthetics DoM MieszkaLnY w MieŚcie – w kontekŚcie estetYki secesYjnej a b s t r a c t a new image of the house in the city is presented against the background of the secession aesthetics as a manifestation of new attempts, concepts and modernist trends in early 20th-century architecture and denial of the stylistic principles of jaded historical forms of art. the search for a new expression of buildings and achieve- ment of “architectural unity” indicate the dualistic challenge of creating a form os- cillating between utility and aesthetics. the means of expression of the secession aesthetics associated with the aspects of visual perception, as carriers of ideas, sym- bols and semantic connotations in the creation of new transformations of the archi- tectural urban space are analysed on the bases of selected examples: houses in cities and towns of autonomous Galicia. Poszukiwania nowego wyrazu budowli i osiągnięcia „architektonicznej jedności” ukazują dualistyczną dążność kształtowania jej formy oscylującej pomiędzy jej użytecznością a estetyką. Środki wyrazu estetyki secesyjnej związane z aspektem percepcji wizualnej, jako nośniki idei, symboli i konotacji znaczeń w kreowaniu nowej transformacji przestrzeni architektonicznej miasta, zanalizowano na wybra- nych przykładach – domów mieszkalnych ośrodków i miast autonomicznej Galicji. Report on Qualifications of Fundraisers for Cultural Events and Best Practices in the Context of Fundraising for Cultural Events
Report on qualifications of fundraisers for cultural events and best practices in the context of fundraising for cultural events. The report consists of the following parts: 1. Introduction 2. The scope of duties of culture fundraisers 3. Education (preferred majors) and preferred hard skills (e.g. languages, computer skills, fund market knowledge) and soft skills (personal attributes) necessary for this job 4. Training needs 5. Best practices – on the example of the National Museum in Krakow 1. Introduction Nowadays the work of a cultural events manager starts long before the planned event actually takes place, and one of the elements of preparatory work is the analysis of the financing method of the planned event (a number of options), the preparation of financial engineering (a number of options) and raising funds for the planned cultural event. Thus a culture manager equally frequently acts as a fundraiser, or performs such a function. At the same time organizing an event from external funds requires from a culture manager knowledge in the scope of various possibilities of financing cultural events both from public and private sources, as well as the ability to manage the project in accordance with the application or feasibility study, to carry out projects in compliance not only with legal requirements and regulations applicable in a given country or regulations of institutions the manager works in, but also the requirements of the grant provider co‐financing the event. It is also necessary to account for the event in accordance with the imposed rules, which entails the collection of documents according to specific guidelines, their adequate description and expenditure of funds within required deadlines, subject to loss of their eligibility. -

It focuses mainly on painting and graphic arts, and selected aspects of photography, design and architecture. Appropriation from Japanese sources triggered the articulation of new visual and conceptual languages which helped forge new art and art educational paradigms that would define the modern age. Starting with Polish fin-de-siècle Japonisme, it examines the role of Western European artistic centres, mainly Paris, in the initial dissemination of Japonisme in Poland, and considers the exceptional case of Julian Żałat, who had first-hand experience of Japan. The second phase of Polish Japonisme (1901-1918) was nourished on local, mostly Cracovian, infrastructure put in place by the ‘godfather’ of Polish Japonisme Żeliks Manggha Jasieski. His pro-Japonisme agency is discussed at length. -

The extant records regarding the atelier for male students made it possible to compile a list of about 165 Polish painters and sculptors studying there in the period from 1880 to 1919. The text presents the criteria used when preparing the list and the diagrams show the fluctuations in registration and the number of Polish artists in particular ateliers in successive years. The observations contained in the article have a summary nature and are illustrated only with selected examples. Content Académie Julian: history of the school Foreigners at the Académie Julian – state of research Poles at the Académie Julian: problems with identification Selection criteria Poles at the Académie Julian: registration and presence in the ateliers Concluding remarks Académie Julian: history of the school [1] The subject of the article is the presence of Polish students in the most important private artistic school in Paris in the second half of the 19th century. Before 1914 its ateliers have seen many painters and sculptors of both sexes and various nationalities, which is why publications such as dictionaries and monographs of particular artists frequently mention the school; it is often referred to as the "famous" Académie Julian or Académie Julien, for despite the fame its name is often quoted incorrectly. -
Teodor Talowski I Jego Willa Pod Kozłem W Bochni Theodor Talowski and His Villa Under the Billy Goat in Bochnia
TEODOR TALOWSKI I JEGO WILLA POD KOZŁEM W BOCHNI THEODOR TALOWSKI AND HIS VILLA UNDER THE BILLY GOAT IN BOCHNIA Anna Sołtysik1 mgr inż. arch. B. P. „Archimedes” Kraków–Krynica Zdrój STRESZCZENIE Willa pod Kozłem (1895 r.) to jedna z wielu realizacji T. Talowskiego, jednego z najwybit- niejszych polskich architektów z przełomu XIX i XX w. Wejście do willi wieńczy malowni- czy szczyt, z herbem Jelita i głową kozła. Nadbudowa z lat 30. ABSTRACT Villa under the billy goat”, built in 1895 in Bochnia is one of the most interesting work of Theodor Talowski, who was very remarkable, polish architect from the turn of the century. Despite the additional storey, built in 30's, villa did not lose it's character and til nowadays it is a building with special, artistic values. Noteworthy are stone details of the gable, arcades of the entrance and portals, which all are works of art. This building is unrepeatable example of polish archi- tecture from among historicism and Art Nouveau. Key words: Talowski, Villa, Historicism, Art Nouveau, Bochnia. Presentation of Human Forms in Polish Art
Presentation of Human Forms in Polish Art Authors Gabriela Kurowska, Michal Seroczynski, Ewa Bajon, Irena Obszynska CKU, Centre for Continuing Education, Poland Introduction The purpose of the course will be to present in particular the development of the presentation of human form, both sacred and civil, in Polish architecture, drawings, sculpture and paintings during the period 11-20 century. The course will start with a theoretical part providing details on selected topics from the scope of developments, its historical back ground which affected the arts evolution in the 10 centuries. The art by itself concerns the man. The man is its creator and its onlooker. Besides, the man is the art’s contents. That happens even when he is not illustrated. The ways of presenting the human beings in art in the scale of the centuries can speak quite precisely about the humans’ conditions and various respective circumstances- that both refers to the authors, and to the masterpieces’ characters as well. While watching sculptures, pictures, drawings, and other artistic artifacts, we come across the knowledge of our ancestors, their intellectual maturity, emotional disposal, and finally- the remarkable abilities. We also experience their sensitivity and extraordinary imagination, not occasionally we find ourselves in a state of moving to tears, or something similar that draws us into the spiritual depths. The human’s effigy was accepted by us just as an efficient, consequent method- a key serving for penetrating the most absorbing phenomena within the art present and developing in Poland. In the choice of such a point of view inclining to taking a deeper consideration of the cultural heritage of the Polish people, there helped us the crucial facts appearing in our history. -
