CITY COUNCIL COUNCIL SPEAKER PARTICIPATORY COREY JOHNSON BUDGETING

Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process in which community members directly decide how to spend a part of their Council Member’s discretionary funds. This year in New York City, 33 Council Members are asking residents how to spend at least $35 million in capital funding.

Community members propose ideas to meet local needs in their districts, such as improvements to schools, parks, libraries, public housing, and other public spaces. Through a public vote, residents determine which proposals to fund. PARTICIPATING COUNCIL MEMBERS
