ACEC CITY PAC Steering Committee PAC Report – December 8, 2020

Background. The ACEC Political Action Committee (PAC) is a legal entity that can collect contributions from individuals and make contributions to political candidates running for elective offices. This PAC supports candidates for New York City public office, such as Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate, and City Council Members. [There is also a federal PAC (personal contributions) and a State PAC (dues check off).]

Purpose. The purpose of the ACEC New York City PAC is to promote the election of responsible, qualified candidates to public office, regardless of party affiliation and to support candidates for public office who understand and appreciate the goals, objectives and values of the engineering community.

Steering Committee. As per the March 2005 bylaws, there is a 5-person steering committee. This committee is charged with making decisions related to candidate contributions: Thomas Schoettle, Chair Charlie Gozdziewski, Vice Chair Cyrus Izzo, At-Large Member Hannah O’Grady, Treasurer Ray Daddazio, Asst Treasurer

Metro Region Membership. 140 main & branch engineering offices in NYC (statewide, we have close to 300 engineering and affiliate firms)

Current Solicitation Process: • Each December, ACEC New York issues an email to the main ACEC New York contact in Metro with a list of principals, key staff and past contributors that we intend to send solicitation letters to and ask them to approve the list (or submit changes). • Each January, ACEC New York issues a solicitation letter & NYCPAC Q&A and starts to post contributions on our PAC webpage and report on progress through the legislative newsletter. • The PAC Chair then follows up with members to encourage participation, starting with leadership participation (Metro board, State Directors, PP Committee Members, and GA Committee Chairs/NYC). • ACEC New York staff mails thank you letters to contributors.

Existing Funds/Signature Bank (new acct 10/2020): 11/30/2020 - $82,078.88

Annual Goal: $15k and 100% participation by leadership. To date, we have achieved: • 100% Metro Board

• 78% Metro Reps to State Board • 71% of GA Chairs/NYC • 70% of Metro Public Policy Committee

*The above contribution limits are applicable to candidates who participate in the City’s old funding program. For the first time, during the 2021 Election Cycle, different contribution limits will apply to candidates whom opt to participate in the City’s new matching fund program as follows: $2,000 Mayor/Public Advocate/Comptroller; $1,500 Borough President; $1,100 City Council
