Tassie's 1/4 Tour TASSIE’S 1/4 TOUR 29 AUGUST - 20 SEPTEMBER 2020 In support of the Ten Lives Building Project Fundraiser: Every cat deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life. For tens of thousands of lost and homeless cats in our community over the last seven decades, that chance begins at Ten Lives. The Ten Lives Cat Centre at Selfs Point Road is a critically needed local resource for Tasmania that has served our cats and the community well since 2006. Ten Lives is saving more cats and kittens than ever before and limitations of an aging, inadequate facility doesn’t meet the demands of providing the best possible care for our cats, or ensuring the staff and volunteers have a safe, supportive and comfortable environment to do their vital work. By building a modern shelter facility, the benefits to both cats and people are clear: more lives will be saved; the number of homeless and abandoned cats will be reduced; and most of all this project will change the landscape of animal welfare within our community and the way we look after our people. It’s that important. We invite you to learn more about this project and join us in making a difference that they can COUNT ON - read all about our Building Project in the Spring 2020 Edition of the Scratching Post (available on our website or drop in to the Centre at 12 Selfs Point Road to grab your copy!) “This is the most significant project Ten Lives has taken on in its 70 years history and it will completely change our ability to care for cats, our people and the environment. Our current premises have served our cats and the community well, but are now seriously inadequate for us to do our work.” - David Rees, Ten Lives President WELCOME, FROM DAVID REES “We have always had the support of the community and as part of my commitment to Ten Lives I am taking the Tour de Ten Lives challenge to get stuck in to help Ten Lives get set for the next 20 years of helping cats, the community and our environment.” - David Rees, Ten Lives President The ¼ Tour de France is a cycling adventure by the President of Ten Lives and hopefully some loyal supporters around Southern Tasmania aimed to match the real Tour de France, except doing only ¼ of the distance, with some exceptions. The Tour takes in all places from where Ten Lives receives lost and abandoned cats and goes some way in demonstrating the reach of Ten Lives (over 1,000 kms). Like the real tour, the ¼ Tour will have 21 Stages and will take place over 3 weeks from Saturday 29 August 2020 and finishing with a sprint on our version of the Paris Champs Elysee, being along Charles Street next to the public park at Orford on Sunday 20 September. It will scale Mount Wellington, go to Huonville, Lauderdale and Granton and everywhere else in between. It will visit the Ten Lives Margate Op Shop, and naturally have a stage leaving and finishing at Ten Lives at Selfs Point. If the Tour can save the life of one cat, it will be more than worth it! We’re building them a brighter future... GET ON BOARD! • Wellington Park Social Values and Landscape Assessment Report
Wellington Park Management Trust WELLINGTON PARK SOCIAL VALUES AND LANDSCAPE – AN ASSESSMENT Prepared by McConnell, A. March 2012 Wellington Park Management Trust, GPO Box 503, Hobart, Tasmania, 7001. Cover – main photo: Mountain Snow [source WPMT] inset photos: :R - Sleeping Beauty [source WPMT] L - Fred Lakin at Lakins Lair [photo: A. McConnell] Explanatory Note This report has been prepared by the Wellington Park Management Trust as part of a multi-stage assessment of the landscape values of Wellington Park. This assessment focuses on the social values of Wellington Park, in particular those which relate to landscape. The assessment is based on a ‘Community Values Survey’, undertaken in late 2010-early 2011 by means of a short questionnaire that the greater Hobart community generally was encouraged to complete. The geographic scope of the study was the whole of Wellington Park. The aim of this study is to understand to what extent, and in which ways, the community, in particular the Greater Hobart community, value Wellington Park. A core part of the assessment was to assess how the Wellington Park landscape is appreciated in order to contribute to an understanding of the full range of landscape values that are being assessed in the broader Wellington Park Landscape Assessment. Wellington Park has acknowledged important landscape values which have applied since the early days of European settlement of Hobart, yet these have not been previously assessed formally or in detail. The main aim of the overall Wellington Park Landscape Assessment therefore is to provide important landscape values information to assist in managing the Park to meet the objectives of the Wellington Park Management Plan.

  • Hobart Traffic Origin-Destination Report (June 2017)
Hobart Traffic Origin-Destination Report (June 2017) In May 2016, the Department of State Growth installed cameras at seven key locations around Hobart to create a cordon, allowing the majority of cars entering and exiting the city to be recorded during the observation period. For the purposes of the study, the wider Hobart area was split into four regions, being Hobart, North, South and East. The movements to and from these regions were captured using the cameras installed at the cordon points: namely the East being tracked at the Tasman Bridge, South at the Southern Outlet and Sandy Bay Road, and the North at the Brooker Highway, New Town Road, Augusta Road and Mount Stuart Road. The data collected therefore allowed the identification of the regional origin and destination of trips through inner Hobart. Morning Peak Destinations (7.30am to 9.30am) 1% East 5% 6% The results for morning peak car movements through inner Hobart was very clear that the vast majority of car trips from the East, South and North terminate in 9% Origin East inner Hobart. South 6% Origin South 8% Origin North There were much lower proportions of trips moving through inner Hobart to terminate in the East, South and North regions during the morning peak period, 13% North 12% with the North being the second most population 7% destination on average. 76% Hobart 77% 79% Afternoon Peak Origins (4.30pm to 6.30pm) 4% East 10% 11% The results for afternoon peak car movements through inner Hobart indicate that the vast majority of car trips to the East, South and North regions originated in 8% Destination East inner Hobart.

  • Roslyn Avenue Speed Limit Reduction
Roslyn Avenue Speed Limit Reduction RACT Submission to Kingborough Council June 2020 The Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania RACT enjoys a trusted position and extensive market penetration in the community. More than 200,000 Tasmanians are RACT members. Formed in 1923, RACT is an apolitical and independent transport, infrastructure, road safety, tourism and mobility advocate. It is committed to supporting and furthering the interests of Tasmanians and does this through a comprehensive program of consultation, education, awareness and public advocacy. RACT is represented in a number of stakeholder reference organisations in Tasmania and undertakes liaison with government and other groups. It also has three regional advocacy committees which are made up of local volunteers and other relevant stakeholders. RACT’s advocacy activity is defined by a series of public policy documents developed and endorsed by RACT’s Advocacy Committee and Board. These policies have been informed by history, experience, statistical analysis, consultation, industry knowledge and, most importantly, our members. Nationally, RACT is a constituent member of the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) which represents some 8 million Australian motorists. Internationally, RACT has joined with other Australian motoring organisations as a member of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) to work on road safety and related issues at a global level. Roslyn Avenue Speed Limit Reduction RACT’s Mobility Strategy The RACT Mobility Strategy contains three key pillars, which include road safety, future mobility and sustainability, with an underlying theme of representing Tasmanian road users. Within each key pillar sits RACT’s vision statements. The statements most applicable to this corridor study include: Road safety vision Increasingly improve Tasmanian roads so they are safer.
