A few doors below here pre 1938 was Harry Priestley’s Saddlers shop number 496 Thornton Road. Mr H. Priestley is still alive, and he is the oldest business man in Thornton who is still carrying on in the same premises where he commenced business 55 years ago. His business now covers a wider field and includes ironmongery, stationery, household goods, and a host of other things. For many years Mr Priestley carried on the postal work of the village, part of the shop being given over to that business. In contrast, the members of the camera club visited Rodley Nature Reserve on Bank Holiday Monday, a very hot day with few birds making themselves apparent but I saw a buzzard circling overhead and whilst this is not pin sharp, I am fairly pleased with the shot as it shows the colourful plumage of these magnificent birds of prey. 15 members turned up at the reserve and enjoyed some camaraderie at this wild area.
