ACTIVITY 3: Read and Respond

This week you will be reading T​ he Odyssey​ - The Land of the Dead (lines 526-671) and The Sirens (lines 672-756). You should have a paper copy of this text (you either picked this up last week or it was given to you in class.) This text is very long and complex. I have broken it down into sections. If you have a phone and can listen to the text read aloud, I would recommend doing that. It’s a difficult text, and being able to listen to it will definitely help.

ACTIVITY 4: Modern-Day Sirens Discussion

The sirens are beautiful female creatures created to lure men to their death through the mesmerizing songs. To lure means to tempt someone to do something or go somewhere. In society, we have many “sirens.” There are many things/people that can lure us into dangerous traps. An example would be the peer-pressure of friends to try drugs. Think about these lures, sirens, in our society today and write about them in the box below. What are they and how do they affect our society? What would our society be like without these “lures”? Explain your reasoning.
