Glavniot urednik Aleksandar Iva- novski smeta{e deka me biva za komentari koi nema da bidat mnogu „pametni i zdodevni“, ama }e bidat „seriozni“. I „bez trtqawe“, kako {to miluva{e da ka`e. Sum imal sre}a {to vo mene ja pronajde onaa ni{ka na neseriozna serioznost i me natera da pi{uvam ba{ onaka kako {to sakam da ka`am. Taka i se javi imeto na rubrikata. Prvite dve kolumni izlegoa bez moja fotografija. Potoa me zdomrze da pi{uvam. Si rekov – zar sekoj petok }e se budam so ma~nina vo stomakot i so pritisok deka treba ne{to da ka- `am, a ne mi se pi{uva. Ama Aco mi re~e deka toa e mnogu neseriozno i neodgovorno. I mi se zakani deka }e me kazni. Pa mi stavi i slika. Taka me zarobi. I do deneska sum napi{al 941 kolumna. I se obidu- vam da go ka`am toa {to vie bi si go ka`ale so prijatelite, so kolegi- te, dodeka se karate so televizorot, dodeka pcuete pred nekoj {alter, dodeka se smeete na nekoja pres-konferencija... Kone~no, trite nagradi {to gi imam dobieno, mi zna~at, no nes- poredlivo pove}e mi zna~at va{ite reakcii, duri i koga toa {to go ka`uvam ne vi se dopa|a. A ovie 20 godini takvi ima{e i premnogu. Ba{ me interesira kako na primer Kondarko bi go odbranil Dimov? Oti toj e zadol`en za branewe. ]e ka`e{e deka toa e gnasna insinuacija na opozicijata naso~ena protiv evropskata integracija i protiv reformite vo zdravstvoto!? 2. Vo nivno vreme be{e lesno. [to li go poddr`aa ministerot Rada, Ilinka i Meri? Ministerkite ne go prijavile podarokot oti podaroci kupeni so narodni pari ne se prijavuvaat. 9 Dimov re~e deka toa bile namenski sredstva. 5. @ena mu mislela deka e so qubovnicata. Qubovnicata mislela deka e so `ena mu. A Lenin bil skrien na tavanot. U~el, u~el i samo u~el. Taka e i so Ilinka. Branko misli deka e vo Brisel, Bu~ko misli deka e vo Va{ington, a Ilinka se skrila vo avion. Raboti, raboti i samo raboti. 6. Do sega gi imavme kumot Bu~ko, kumata Rada i kumata Ilinka.

PROGRAMME DIVERSITY OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL TV-CHANNELS IN MACEDONIA, CROATIA AND SLOVENIA Programme Diversity of the Most Influential TV-Channels in Macedonia, Croatia and Slovenia COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE COMMERCIAL TERRESTRIAL TV-CHANNELS ON NATIONAL LEVEL PROGRAMME DIVERSITY OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL TV-CHANNELS IN MACEDONIA, CROATIA AND SLOVENIA Authors: Vesna Nikodinoska, Marina Tuneva and Slavco Milenkovski 1. INTRODUCTION The largest commercial terrestrial TV-channels on national level in Macedonia continue to represent a dominant source of information for the audience; hence, they continue to exert the greatest influence on the public opinion. Therefore, on one hand, it imposes expectations that the programme they offer to the viewers should reflect quality and diversity of content, and at the same time, it should set high standards for practitioners working in TV-channels, but on the other hand, they should promote democratic values and professional principles,1 so as to advance the development of the broadcasting industry. The quality of the media content is not an obligation explicitly regulated by law; however, the national commercial TV- channels, as the most viewed and the most influential, are expected to show a sense of social responsibility and work for the public interest, since they themselves are users of public resources. Under free market conditions, the competition with quality content should serve as additional stimulation to the rivalry in the broadcasting area and as “bait” for attracting advertisers. That is

It achieved its goal of winning diplomatic allies among the post-communist states only in 1999, when Macedonia recognized the Republic of China (ROC) hoping that Taipei’s generosity would resolve its economic problems. In order to showcase the effectiveness of its assistance, Taipei resorted to economic diplomacy and offered Skopje loans, humanitarian and technical assistance. Yet, the Macedonian–Taiwanese partnership ended in 2001. This report will argue that Taipei failed to become a viable alternative to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as Skopje’s economic and diplomatic partner because of China’s clout in international affairs and its own reluctance to shower Macedonia with developmental assistance.

These issues emerge especially due to non-native speakers’ unawareness that certain forms have more than one function. In this paper1 we focus our attention on comparing the linguistic strategies used for expressing explicit, emotional gratitude in Macedonian and Eng- lish, “fala” and “blagodaram” and “thanks” and “thank you” respectively, with regard to their usage in informal and formal speech and their functions as politeness and discourse markers. Key words: politeness, gratitude, discourse markers. 1. INTRODUCTION Expressing gratitude is a universal linquistic phenomenon which plays a vital role in maintaining equilibrium in human interactions and relations. Or as Eisenstein and Bodman (1986) put it: “The language function of expressing gratitude is used frequently and openly in a wide range of interpersonal relationships: among intimates, friends, strangers, and with superiors and subordinates. When performed successfully, the language function of expressing gratitude can engender feelings of warmth and solidarity.
