Team BC will send a strong contingent of 355 athletes, 73 coaches, three National Artists and 21 mission staff. The Games provide a proving ground for the Team, for specific sports and for individuals. Each have set goals, have been training hard and will strive for excellence in their chosen sport. The Games are a chance to celebrate both individual triumphs and accomplishments of the team. The Canada Summer Games is an opportunity for BC’s next generation of national athletes to experience an important milestone on their athletic journey. This experience will be heightened since the 2009 Games are the last major multi-sport event in the country prior to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. 1 Team BC 2009 Canada Summer Games British Columbia boasts a strong and vibrant sport system. That is due to the dedication of our athletes and their families, the commitment of our Provincial Sport Organizations and Multi Sport Organizations and the support of thousands of people across the province, all of whom recognize the important role that sport, recreation and physical activity play in our lives. It is our provincial goal to lead the way in North America in healthy living and physical fitness. Every member of Team BC is an exceptional role model, inspiring younger athletes to embrace the beauty of sport and to reach for their dreams. Congratulations to Team BC – for being wonderful ambassadors for our province – and for demonstrating that the sky really is the limit! Yours truly, Ida Chong, FCGA Minister of Healthy Living and Sport 2 Team BC 2009 Canada Summer Games The Canada Winter Games will be held in Summerside and Charlottetown, PEI from August 15-29, 2009.
