  • A's News Clips, Thursday, March 3, 2011 A's Outfielder Coco Crisp
A’s News Clips, Thursday, March 3, 2011 A's outfielder Coco Crisp arrested on suspicion of DUI By Joe Stiglich Oakland Tribune A's center fielder Coco Crisp was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday morning, according to an A's news release. Crisp was detained and taken to City of Scottsdale Jail before being released Wednesday morning. He showed up to Phoenix Municipal Stadium on time to join the team for pre-game drills and was in uniform -- but not in the lineup -- for a game against the Cleveland Indians. Crisp declined to comment when asked about the situation, saying he would address the media "in due time." "The A's are aware of the situation and take such matters seriously," the A's statement read. "The team and Coco will have no further comment until further details are available." Crisp, 31, is in his second season with the A's and is slated to play center field and be the leadoff hitter. Ironically, the A's held a security meeting with Major League Baseball officials before taking the field Wednesday. A message that is stressed in the annual meeting is having awareness of the off-field dangers that exist for professional athletes. Crisp signed with the A's as a free agent in December 2009. He hit .279 with eight homers and 38 RBIs last season but played in just 75 games because of a fractured pinkie and strained rib cage muscle. Crisp posts frequently on his Twitter account and often makes reference to his nighttime socializing.

Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings November 21, 2012 CINCINNATI ENQUIRER Pitching is pricey, transactions By John Fay | 11/20/2012 12:17 PM ET Want to know why the Reds would be wise to lock up Homer Bailey and Mat Latos long-term? The Kansas City Royals agreed to a three-year deal with Jeremy Guthrie that pays him $5 million on 2013, $11 million in 2014 and $9 million in 2015. He went 8-12 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Bailey went 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Latos went 14-4 with a 2.48 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. It’s a bit apples and oranges: Guthrie is a free agent; Bailey is arbitration-eligible for the second time, Latos for the first. But the point is starting pitching — even mediocre starting pitching — is expensive. SIX ADDED: The Reds added right-handers Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Curtis Partch and Josh Ravin, left-hander Ismael Guillon and outfielder Yorman Rodriguez to the roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Report: Former Red Frank Pastore badly hurt in motorcycle wreck By dclark | 11/20/2012 7:55 PM ET The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin is reporting that former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Pastore, a Christian radio personality in California, was badly injured Monday night after being thrown from his motorcycle onto the highway near Duarte, Calif. From dailybulletin.com’s Juliette Funes: A 55-year-old motorcyclist from Upland was taken to a trauma center when his motorcycle was hit by a car on the 210 Freeway Monday night.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

  • Indians Complete 2013 First-Year Player Draft
INDIANS COMPLETE 2013 FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT CLEVELAND, OH - Information on Cleveland Indians 2013 First-Year Player Draft selections, rounds 1 thru 10. *Signed 6/15 Round 1 (#5 overall) OF CLINT FRAZIER AGE/DOB: 18, September 6, 1994 High School: Loganville HS (GA) BATS/THROWS: R/R HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-11/185 Prep outfielder, recently graduated from Loganville High School in Loganville, Georgia, where he batted .485 in his senior campaign (47-for-97) with 17 homers, 45 RBI, 56 runs scored, a .561 on-base pct. and a 1.134 slugging pct. in 32 games. Following the season, the 5’11” right-handed hitter was named the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year. He has a verbal commit to attend the University of Georgia and is the first overall high school position player selected in the 2013 draft. From MLB.com on Frazier Comments: Everything you say about Austin Meadows, you can say about Frazier, except for one thing: his size. Frazier doesn't "look the part" quite as much, but he still has just as many tools as his fellow Georgia prepster. A right-handed hitter, Frazier ran a 6.6 second 60 at the East Coast Pro Showcase over the summer. He also might have a more advanced bat than most of the high schoolers in the class, with a quick, short stroke that generates more power than you might expect given his frame. The lack of physicality might concern some, but his collection of tools should keep him high on Draft boards all spring.
