JARPET (262-122976) Category: 01.05 industry / tools / machines / robots Electronic Pet Children are driven by strong curiosity, and they are especially passionate in observing the nature. However, the fast urbanization process has kept children far away from natural environment, leaving them little contact with various animals. JARPET projects the 3D images of pets, and can interact with kids by multi-sensory technology. Close observation helps children to know about animal behaviors and habits, and develops their passion for the nature. Compared with keeping a real pet, this way costs less and consumes less. When children feel lonely and bored, JARPET is a good companion. Levitated Interface (262-122504) Category: 01.03 audio / video / telecommunications / computer / technical solutions Tangible Computer Interface Imagine a physical object that can float and move freely in the air, unconstrained by gravity. ZeroN is a new interaction element that can be levitated and moved freely by computer in the mid-air space to represent 3D information. Users are invited to place and move the ZeroN just as they can place objects on surfaces. They can place the sun above physical models to cast digital shadows, place a planet that will start revolving based on programmed conditions, or play 3D tangible pong. To realize such a space of zero-gravity, we developed a magnetic and mechanical control system and an optical tracking system.

Despite their close economic relationship since 1965, their conflicting historic and political relationships and deep-seated prejudice against each other have continued. The Korean government’s official ban on the direct import of Japanese cultural products existed until 1997, but various kinds of Japanese cultural products, including popular music, found their way into Korea through various legal and illegal routes and influenced contemporary Korean popular culture. Since 1998, under Korea’s Open- Door Policy, legally available Japanese popular cultural products became widely consumed, especially among young Koreans fascinated by Japan’s quintessentially postmodern popular culture, despite lingering resentments towards Japan.

  • Domain Adaptation Under Structural Causal Models
Domain adaptation under structural causal models Yuansi Chen [email protected] Peter B¨uhlmann [email protected] Seminar for Statistics ETH Z¨urich Z¨urich,Switzerland Abstract Domain adaptation (DA) arises as an important problem in statistical machine learning when the source data used to train a model is different from the target data used to test the model. Recent advances in DA have mainly been application-driven and have largely relied on the idea of a common subspace for source and target data. To understand the empirical successes and failures of DA methods, we propose a theoretical framework via structural causal models that enables analysis and comparison of the prediction performance of DA methods. This framework also allows us to itemize the assumptions needed for the DA methods to have a low target error. Additionally, with insights from our theory, we pro- pose a new DA method called CIRM that outperforms existing DA methods when both the covariates and label distributions are perturbed in the target data. We complement the theoretical analysis with extensive simulations to show the necessity of the devised assump- tions. Reproducible synthetic and real data experiments are also provided to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of DA methods when parts of the assumptions of our theory are violated. Keywords: anticausal, conditionally invariant components, domain generalization, do- main invariant projection, label shift, structural causal models 1. Introduction Domain adaptation (DA) is a statistical machine learning problem in which one aims at learning a model from a labeled source dataset and expecting it to perform well on an unlabeled target dataset drawn from a different but related data distribution.

  • A Geographic History of Song-Dynasty Chan Buddhism: the Decline of the Yunmen Lineage
decline of the yunmen lineage Asia Major (2019) 3d ser. Vol. 32.1: 113-60 jason protass A Geographic History of Song-Dynasty Chan Buddhism: The Decline of the Yunmen Lineage abstract: For a century during China’s Northern Song era, the Yunmen Chan lineage, one of several such regional networks, rose to dominance in the east and north and then abruptly disappeared. Whereas others suggested the decline was caused by a doctri- nal problem, this essay argues that the geopolitics of the Song–Jin wars were the pri- mary cause. The argument builds upon a dataset of Chan abbots gleaned from Flame Records. A chronological series of maps shows that Chan lineages were regionally based. Moreover, Song-era writers knew of regional differences among Chan lin- eages and suggested that regionalism was part of Chan identity: this corroborates my assertion. The essay turns to local gazetteers and early-Southern Song texts that re- cord the impacts of the Song–Jin wars on monasteries in regions associated with the Yunmen lineage. Finally, I consider reasons why the few Yunmen monks who sur- vived into the Southern Song did not reconstitute their lineage, and discuss a small group of Yunmen monks who endured in north China under Jin and Yuan control. keywords: Chan, Buddhism, geographic history, mapping, spatial data n 1101, the recently installed emperor Huizong 徽宗 (r. 1100–1126) I authored a preface for a new collection of Chan 禪 religious biogra- phies, Record of the Continuation of the Flame of the Jianzhong Jingguo Era (Jianzhong Jingguo xudeng lu 建中靖國續燈錄, hereafter Continuation of the Flame).1 The emperor praised the old “five [Chan] lineages, each ex- celling in a family style 五宗各擅家風,” a semimythical system promul- gated by the Chan tradition itself to assert a shared identity among the ramifying branches of master-disciple relationships.

IMPORTANT HEALTH WARNING: PHOTOSENSITIVE SEIZURES A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people with no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games. Symptoms can include light-headedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, momentary loss of awareness, and loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects. Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents, watch for or ask children about these symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely to experience these seizures. The risk may be reduced by being farther from the screen; using a smaller screen; playing in a well-lit room, and not playing when drowsy or fatigued. If you or any relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing. • The Holy See
The Holy See BEATIFICATION OF FOUR SERVANTS OF GOD HOMILY OF JOHN PAUL II St Peter's Square Fourth Sunday of Lent, 21 March 2004 1. "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation" (II Cor 5: 17).With these words spoken by the Apostle Paul, we can sum up the message of today's Beatification Liturgy, which is very fitting for this so-called "Laetare Sunday" in the middle of our Lenten journey. The Second Reading and the Gospel form as it were a duet in praise of the love of God, our Merciful Father (Lk 15: 11-32), who has reconciled us in Christ (II Cor 5: 17-21). It is a hymn that makes a heartfelt appeal to "be reconciled to God" (II Cor 5: 20).This invitation is based on the certainty that the Lord loves us. He loved the Israelites and led them into the land of Canaan after the long journey of the Exodus that is full of heartfelt longing, as we heard in the First Reading. The Passover that they celebrated "in the evening in the plains of Jericho" (Jos 5: 10) and the first months that they spent in the Promised Land became for them an eloquent symbol of divine fidelity, a gift of God's peace to his Chosen People after the sorrowful experience of slavery.2. The four new Blesseds whom the Church presents to us today are special witnesses of God's loving Providence that accompanies humanity on its way: Luigi Talamoni, Matilde of the Sacred Heart, Piety of the Cross and Maria Candida of the Eucharist. They faced the labours and trials of their earthly pilgrimage sustained by indomitable trust in the Heavenly Father.
