In autumn 1514, next to Orsha, the army of the Grand clashed with and defeated the ar-my of the Grand Duchy of Moscow, which had been almost 3 times larger. That is considered the biggest military victory of Lithuania over Russia. The victory in the Battle of Orsha ensured peace in the state, at the same time providing favour- able conditions for the state’s strengthening: the First Statute of Lithuania was adopted and relations with Belarus and Ukraine were enhanced. This victory is also significant from the point of view of history of military strategy: for the first time, cavalrymen, artillery and infantry were used.

On 9 January 2014, Lithuania joined other space states by launching the first 2 Lithuanian satellites LituanicaSAT-1 and LitSat-1, which were moving around the Earth’s orbit for about 6 months. The satellites LituanicaSAT-1 and LitSat-1 collected information on communication systems and control of small satellites from the Earth us- ing the means of space navigation, took photo- graphs of the Earth, the Sun and the Moon and tested an FM retransmitter the signal of which was received by radio amateurs in more than 20 countries. The satellite LituanicaSAT-1 has been assigned an international number LO-78 by the FDC 2014–16a international radio amateur organisation AMSAT which is only assigned to satellites in conformity with communications satellites requirements. The launch of the satellites is a major step for Lithuania contributing to the development of FDC 2014–15 even more complex projects.
