FRANK Arthur Prank was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of an insurance salesman. He attended Youngstown College for two years and got his degree from Kent State University. He taught in various public school systems for a few years and then took a full time job with the Isaly Company, in charge of the accounting department. In 1969 Mr. Prank bought the Isaly stand at the Canfield Fair and he and his family have been running it since then, Prior to 1969, he worked at the concession for the Isaly Company. If he runs the stand at the fair in 1984, it will make his forty-ninth year. TOTAL ACTUAL COST: $104 million 2001 The site is completed. HISTORY The steel production on the northern region was owned by Benjamin Franklin Jones. In 1853 Jones merged his operations with the South Side’s American Iron Works, which was co-owned by the brothers Bernard and John Lauth. This resulted in the formation of the Jones and Lauth Company. When the Lauth brothers sold the corporation to a banker named James Laughlin in 1863, the company took the name Jones and Laughlin Company. In 1887 a bridge connecting the north and south shores of the Monongahela River was constructed to transport the hot pig iron manufactured on the northern shore to the processing facility in the south. This bridge known as the Hot Metal Bridge has been renovated for vehicular traffic presently. J&L was, by far, the major competitor to the Carnegie Steel, the top steel producer at the time.

The Training and Development Department of Mercy Behavioral Health is located in the last building on the right before the railroad tracks. The 10th Street Bridge will be on your right. The Training and Development Department is located on the second floor.

Ling started an electrical construction and engineering firm in Dallas, Texas. Through a number of takeovers and mergers, the company that Ling established eventually became known as Ling- Temco-Vought (LTV). When LTV took over Republic Steel and combined with J&L to form LTV Steel Co., it became the second largest steel producer in the nation. LTV was set to have a large station in Pittsburgh as J&L is a Pittsburgh-based company. All three of its manufacturing facilities were located there, including South Side Works. At its peak in the 1960s, J & L employed about 8,500 people.

We are the last building on the right before the railroad tracks and the Monongahela River. Our office is on the first floor. Free parking is available in our parking lot and in adjacent lots. Limited on-street parking is available on South 9th Street. Our location is so new that it may not appear on all GPS systems. For your convenience, we have provided driving directions. Map Driving Directions to Pittsburgh Mercy Family Health Center From the North From PA Route 28 North Head west on PA Route 28 South toward Exit 5. Take the Interstate 579 South exit toward Liberty Bridge/Chestnut Street. Keep left at the fork and merge onto I-579 South. Take the Seventh Avenue Exit toward Sixth Avenue/Downtown. Keep left at the fork and follow signs for Consol Energy Center/Sixth Avenue. Merge onto Bigelow Boulevard. Continue onto Ross Street. Turn left onto Forbes Avenue. Turn right onto South 10th Street/Armstrong Tunnel. Continue to follow South 10th Street across the bridge. Take the first right after the bridge onto Bingham Street. Take the first right onto South 9th Street. Travel three blocks. Pittsburgh Mercy Family Health Center is located in the last building on the right before the railroad tracks.
