Income from ETA membership helps to maintain this beautiful building for future generations and has contributed to many projects, including redecorating the artists’ dressing rooms and the backstage areas.

The Everyman Theatre (originally the New Theatre and Opera House) was designed by the great Victorian architect, Frank Matcham. The auditorium is the oldest example of his work still in theatrical use. Opened by Lillie Langtry in October 1891, the theatre has continued to be a magnet for the stars of the day, welcoming Sir John Gielgud, Sir , Stephen Berkoff, Windsor Davies, , Penelope Keith, , Nigel Havers, Alison Steadman, Pam Ayres, , Timothy West, Tom Conti, Simon Callow and Stephanie Beacham.

The theatre underwent a major restoration in the summer of 2011, returning the beautiful Victorian auditorium to its former glory, as well as refurbishing the front of house areas, the cafe and bars. Today it is a vibrant theatre, presenting a huge variety of events, ranging from drama, comedy, opera, ballet, ice spectaculars, musicals, contemporary dance, children’s shows and its annual traditional Christmas pantomime. The Everyman also has a first class Studio Theatre presenting the best in small-scale and innovative productions and an excellent community and education programme, including youth theatre groups, dance classes, community choirs and writing and acting workshops.

The Everyman truly is Gloucestershire’s theatre and has something for everyone to enjoy.
