Background to Theatre Royal Bath Productions

Theatre Royal Bath, a registered charity, is one of the UK’s most historic and beautiful . Situated in the centre of the City of Bath, it consists of three auditoria – the Main House, the Ustinov Studio and the egg. At the heart of the Main House programme is high quality drama i.e. plays on their way into or direct from the West End, plays from the National Theatre and the RSC and plays produced by Theatre Royal Bath Productions (see below). The Ustinov Studio presents two repertory seasons a year of productions that are produced in-house under the artistic directorship of , as well as a small programme of toured-in product from small-scale theatre companies. The egg presents a wide range of work for children, young people and their families. Please see our website for a fuller outline of the programmes at each venue. www.theatreroyal.org.uk

Theatre Royal Bath Productions (TRBP) was set up in 1998 as a commercial subsidiary of Theatre Royal Bath to produce plays for the Main House, other regional venues, the West End and overseas. Since its inception, Theatre Royal Bath Productions has been stunningly successful. It has produced over one hundred productions including in excess of twenty in the West End.

The Theatre Royal Bath receives no public subsidy and the income generated by TRBP (several million pounds since its inception) is all handed over to the theatre to support its not-for-profit activities including its work in the Ustinov Studio and the egg and to maintain its historic building fabric.

TRBP’s activity is overseen by a small team of Theatre Royal Bath staff who manage the productions of the plays mentioned above as well as programming and managing the Theatre Royal itself. This placement will therefore provide hands-on experience from both the perspective of a commercial producer and a theatre manager. There is no limit to the opportunities this placement will present to an entrepreneurial, self-motivated individual wishing to progress within the commercial theatre sector.
