PRESS RELEASE: 21 June 2017 Nica Burns presents the Sheffield Theatres production of Music by Dan Gillespie Sells Book and Lyrics by Tom MacRae From an idea by Jonathan Butterell Directed by Jonathan Butterell Design by Anna Fleischle Choreography by Kate Prince Lighting design by Lucy Carter Sound design by Paul Groothuis Musical direction by Theo Jamieson Casting by Will Burton Apollo Theatre Previews from Monday 6 November 2017 Press Night Wednesday 22 November 2017 Once upon a time there was a 16-year-old boy who had a secret he wanted to tell... So, he approached a documentary film maker as you do, and asked if they would help him tell it. The resulting documentary was seen by a theatre director and it inspired him to create a musical. A producing regional theatre backed him. He then bumped into a famous musical theatre star who introduced him to a well-known pop composer who was working with a lyricist and book writer. The theatre put on the production. A major producer saw it and offered them a West End theatre. So, thanks to Jamie Campbell, Firecracker Films, Michael Ball, Sheffield Theatres and Nica Burns, a new British musical by a new British theatre writing and directing team, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie opens at the Apollo Theatre on Wednesday 22 November 2017. Fairy tales really do come true. “Touching, Funny, Joyous” THE OBSERVER 1 “Sends you out on a feel-good bubble of happiness” DAILY TELEGRAPH “Everyone should really be talking about Jamie” THE TIMES “The show is terrific and John McCrea gives an exceptional performance.

  • Panto Season 2017/2018
Panto Season Click here for the audio. As December arrives and the tinsel comes out our thoughts turn to our seasonal traditions as Christmas cheer fills the air, in almost every theatre across the country a that seasonal tradition sparkles with uniquely British institution and tradition of Pantomime. Accessibility ranks high when it comes to panto with the majority of these glossy festive shows coming with audio descriptions and touch tours. I decided to choose a few of these to sample in theatres around the country and I found myself during December and January in Stoke on Trent indulging in the magic of Aladdin, down south in Crawley soaking up Snow White and the seven dwarfs, in Wolverhampton for Jack and the Beanstalk and taking a break in Southampton for a different interpretation of Snow White and finally experiencing a family festive production of a cult classic- 101 Dalmatians at the Birmingham Rep which was offering a pre-recorded audio description on every performance for the first time. Below are the reviews of these productions and their access services. Aladdin at the Regent Theatre Stoke On Trent – Audio described performance – Friday 22nd of December 7pm /touch tour 6pm Starring Jonathon Wilkes as Aladdin and Christian Patterson as Widow Twankey. The production ran from the 15th of December till 7th January 2018 We jumped on the magic carpet for a polished panto from QDOS that was, very funny and full of some really entertaining performances. Starting with a touch tour, a slick effective affair led by Describer Anne Hornsby and Technical Manager Kate, tour of 9 patrons explored the sets and scenery after an overview of the production which included some of the many lavish costumes, an array of shiny lamps and a few technical aspects of the production.

  • Natural Pursuits – the Screen Dramas of Simon Gray Television Season at BFI Southbank in August 2011
PRESS RELEASE June 2011 11/49 Natural Pursuits – The Screen Dramas of Simon Gray Television Season at BFI Southbank in August 2011 BFI Southbank celebrates the tragi-comic screen dramas of the late Simon Gray. A writer of immense wit and intellectual charm whose razor-sharp dialogue is unsurpassed. The month long season features some of Gray’s most celebrated work including screenings of Unnatural Pursuits (1992), After Pilkington (1987) and They Never Slept (1991) which feature performances by British acting elite including Alan Bates, Edward Fox and Miranda Richardson. Following the screening of They Never Slept, a panel of guests including producer Kenith Trodd, and directors Udayan Prasad and Christopher Morahan will discuss his great contribution to television drama and the theatre illustrated with clips of some of his early and rare television plays to be chaired by Broadcaster Matthew Sweet. After the screening of Butley on Sunday 14 Aug, Lindsay Posner, director of the 40th anniversary revival of the play currently running at the Duchess Theatre will also be welcomed to the BFI stage for a Q&A. Gray wrote prolifically from the mid-60s onwards for both the West End stage (Otherwise Engaged, Quartermaine’s Terms, The Late Middle Classes, Butley) and for television, where such important early successes such as Death of a Teddy Bear, Man in a Sidecar and The Caramel Crisis were carelessly wiped. His most fertile period writing specifically for TV occurred between 1975 and 1993 during a close collaboration with producer Kenith Trodd and four major directors, Michael Lindsay- Hogg, Christopher Morahan, Udayan Prasad and Pat O’Connor.
