Night ( occidentalis ) bibliography, 1861-2013

Compiled by Allan Burbidge and John Blyth Department of Parks and Wildlife,

(Contact: [email protected])

This bibliography of information on the ( Pezoporus occidentalis ) contains the majority of known and available references that focus solely on the Night Parrot, and relevant literature that contains some information on the species. We began the bibliography during research for the writing of the Western Australian Interim Recovery Plan for the Night Parrot (Blyth 1997) and concurrent investigations into reports of potential Night Parrot sightings (eg Blyth et al . 1997). It contains scientific articles concerning Night , as well as some newspaper and magazine articles related to the history of searches for Night Parrots, together with selected unpublished items such as consultancy reports. Some references have been taken from the World Wide Web and although useful may not be completely reliable sources of information. It is hoped that the bibliography will provide a comprehensive resource for researchers and facilitate a strategic and collaborative approach towards future research and conservation management for the Night Parrot.

Numerous colleagues contributed to our compilation, and Lisa Wright and her staff at the Conservation Science Library of the Western Australian Department of Parks and Wildlife have been most helpful in tracking down obscure references.
