MUSIC: LATEST LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT Music fans have been in a frenzy of excitement with the announcement of international acts such as Sigur Rós, Foals and Cheer Chen. As we get closer to the 2016 edition of Hong Kong’s beloved festival, expectation is building with the addition of The Chemical Brothers, Die Antwoord, Blood Orange, Yo La Tengo, hyukoh, ….Huh!?, 65daysofstatic and Shura. You’d be mad to miss it! With six number 1 albums and thirteen top 20 singles to their name, The Chemical Brothers (UK) have been a leading force in England’s big beat and electronica scene for over two decades. Since their formation in the late 1980s, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have sold millions of albums and performed all over the globe on the largest of stages. They are world renowned for their breathtaking live sets, complete with custom made robots, psychedelic images and immersive light show. As their one and only Asia festival performance for 2016, fans from across the region will be flocking to Hong Kong to catch this unmissable performance! The Chemical Brothers (UK) Newly added to Clockenflap’s stellar lineup are South African rap-ravers, Die Antwoord (SA). With their mixture of eccentric style and razor-sharp lyrics, the duo spin celebrity on its head with their parodies of Cape Town’s counterculture. Part hard-core trance, part rap, they are known to shock, both onstage and off. Do not miss their turbo-charged sets and larger than life stage personas. Die Antwoord (SA) Styled as the 20th coolest man in music by NME, Blood Orange (UK) is bringing his eclectic blend of R&B and electronica to this year’s Clockenflap stage. Once a member of dance-punk band Test Icicles, London-born singer-songwriter-producer Dev Hynes has since found success under the moniker Lightspeed Champion. Since 2008, he has been performing as Blood Orange and writing for some of the world’s biggest artists, including FKA Twigs, Florence and the Machine, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Chemical Brothers and Kylie Minogue. Blood Orange (UK) With their unique sound that ranges from art-rock screamers to earnest ballads, American indie rockers Yo La Tengo (US) are one of this year’s most anticipated acts. Having produced fourteen albums in their 30-year history, the highly experimental band have a legion of loyal fans across the world and are looking to mesmerize the Clockenflap crowd with their one-of- a-kind, genre-hopping show. We can’t wait. Yo La Tengo (US) Since their appearance on Infinite Challenge, one of South Korea’s most popular TV shows, indie-quartet hyukoh (KR) have climbed the charts with hit singles ‘Comes and Goes’ and ‘Wi Ing Wi Ing’ hyukoh makes their Clockenflap debut and first major performance in Hong Kong following appearances at the Strawberry Music Festivals in Shanghai and Beijing, and Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Osaka. Rounding off the latest lineup announcement are Hong Kong’s very own ….Huh!? (HK). Fans of Hong Kong’s indie scene in the mid-1990s will remember the alternative rockers for tracks such as ‘Beautiful Night’ and ‘To Where the Birds Fly’. Set to make a triumphant return to the stage almost 20 years on, don’t miss this very special one-off show at Clockenflap 2016. .…Huh!? (HK) Following the release of her debut album ‘Nothing’s Real’, Shura (UK) has emerged as one of 2016’s hottest UK artists with her unique blend of synthpop, R&B and indietronica. Born Alexandra Lilah Denton to a Russian mother and an English father, she once looked set for a different path, playing football for Manchester City youth team before the lure of open mic nights drew her away. With musical influences that range from Whitney Houston to Pink Floyd, Shura’s Clockenflap debut promises to be an eclectic experience! Hailing from Sheffield, England, 65daysofstatic (UK) are bringing their guitar-driven instrumental post-rock sound to Clockenflap as part of their No Man’s Sky world tour. Since forming in 2001, the band have released five albums with tracks that incorporate electronic music, drum and bass and glitch music. Festival enthusiasts can discover new artists and their unique sounds in our specially-created playlists. Preview the most updated lineup at clockenflap.com. ARTS: CLUB MINKY IS BACK ALONGSIDE NEW PROGRAMMES Clockenflap is proud to extend its tradition of ground-breaking performing arts and cultural experiences with the return of Club Minky. The curated three-day programme features performances discovered at fringe festivals around the world, transporting festival participants into a surreal and bizarre underworld of theatre, cabaret, comedy, circus, and live music. Winners of the “Best Circus and Physical Theatre” award at the Adelaide Fringe this year, All Genius All Idiot (SE) will undoubtedly be a festival favourite. This debut show was formed by Svalbard Company, a troupe of four international performers who met at Stockholm’s University of Dance and Circus. Their anarchic acts are known to use extreme circus artistry to highlight the animal side of humans driven by hauntingly beautiful yet bizarre original soundtracks played live by the performers themselves. All Genius All Idiot (SE) Clockenflappers are in for a treat with Yeti’s Demon Dive Bar (UK), a raucous and risqué show, where musical comedy and psychedelic vaudeville collide. The globetrotting, multi- award winning duo from EastEnd Caberet, Jennifer Byrne and Vicky Falconer-Pritchard will bring a parade of memorable weirdos to life in a show that’s as outrageous as it is funny. Yeti’s Demon Dive Bar (UK) Hailing from Nagoya in Japan, ICHI (JP) has set out to create a performance that is totally unique. ICHI, the self-styled one-man band, combines instruments of his own invention (Stilt- bass, Kalilaphone, Balloon-pipes, Hatbox-pedal-drum, Tapumpet, Percussion-shoes & Hat- trick-hat) with steel-drum, ping-pong balls, toys and numerous other everyday objects. He has performed in festivals all over the world, even receiving a standing ovation at Glastonbury. ICHI (JP) ARTS: HOW DOES THE DIGITAL AGE MAKE US FUTURE HUMAN? As part of the 2016 Arts theme Future Human, visitors are invited to meet with a machine in The Blind Robot. In the same manner that a blind person would explore a person’s face, the robot delicately touches the face and upper body of the visitor – an emotionally-loaded action which one would not normally expect from a machine. The Blind Robot Concert-goers are sure to enjoy the 360º virtual reality film, In the Eyes of the Animal which takes viewers deep into the forest through the eyes of four woodland species. Developed by creative studio Marshmallow Laser Fest, this computer-generated immersive experience is truly other-worldly. In the Eyes of the Animal TICKET INFORMATION This year’s Phase 2 tickets are now on sale and will end November 10. The "electroclash" movement was basically a revival of the dance-punk style of the new wave. It was New York dj Lawrence "Larry Tee" who coined the term, and the first Electroclash Festival was held in that city in 2001. However, the movement had its origins on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. One could argue that electroclash was born with Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass (1997), released by Belgian dj Ferenc van der Sluijs under the moniker I-f. At about the same time German house dj Helmut-Josef "DJ Hell" Geier was promoting a scene in Berlin that was basically electroclash. Another forerunner was French dj Caroline "Miss Kittin" Herve', who had recorded the EP Champagne (1998), a collaboration with Michael "The Hacker" Amato that included the pioneering hit 1982. The duo joined the fad that they had pioneered with First Album (2001). Britain was first exposed to electroclash when Liverpool's Ladytron released He Took Her To A Movie (1999), that was basically a cover of Kraftwerk's The Model. Next came Liverpool's Robots In Disguise with the EP Mix Up Words and Sounds (2000).
