Helen Warner P a g e | 2 ABSTRACT According to the head of the American Costume Designers‟ Guild, Deborah Nadoolman Landis, fashion is emphatically „not costume‟. However, if this is the case, how do we approach costume in a television show like Sex and the City (1998-2004), which we know (via press articles and various other extra-textual materials) to be comprised of designer clothes? Once onscreen, are the clothes in Sex and the City to be interpreted as „costume‟, rather than „fashion‟? To be sure, it is important to tease out precise definitions of key terms, but to position fashion as the antithesis of costume is reductive. Landis‟ claim is based on the assumption that the purpose of costume is to tell a story. She thereby neglects to acknowledge that the audience may read certain costumes as fashion - which exists in a framework of discourses that can be located beyond the text. This is particularly relevant with regard to contemporary US television which, according to press reports, has witnessed an emergence of „fashion programming‟ - fictional programming with a narrative focus on fashion.

‘HEALING HANDS’ CAST BIOS EDDIE CIBRIAN (Buddy Hoyt) – A versatile actor who continues to expand his career in television and film, Eddie Cibrian is fast becoming one of the leading young actors in the business today. Born and raised in California, Cibrian began his acting career at the age of 12, landing a Coca-Cola commercial on his very first audition. Following the success of that spot, Cibrian appeared in numerous other national commercials. Upon entering high school, Cibrian decided to put his acting career on hold to pursue his other passion: Sports. He excelled in every sport he competed in – football, baseball, soccer and volleyball – and graduated high school with several All-State honors. Cibrian continued his successful athletic career when he entered UCLA’s football program in the fall of 1991. Unfortunately, an injury during his first year on the team left Cibrian sidelined, so he decided to return to acting. Cibrian immediately landed several national commercials and soon after, starred in Malcolm- Jamal Warner’s Emmy® Award winning television special “Kids Killing Kids.” The attention Cibrian garnered for his appearance on Warner’s special led to several soap opera auditions, including one for “The Young and the Restless.” The show’s producers were impressed with Cibrian’s acting abilities and created a character for him on the show, that of the conniving Matt Clark. Within three months, Cibrian had received so much fan mail that CBS signed him to a three-year contract. After appearing on “The Young and the Restless” for two years, Cibrian starred in several television shows including “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Baywatch Nights,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” and “Saved by the Bell: The College Years.” It was not long before Aaron Spelling offered Cibrian the starring role of Cole Deschanel on the NBC daytime drama, “Sunset Beach.” Just five months after his debut, TV Guide named Cibrian one of Daytime’s 12 Hottest Stars.

After a few stints in more serious features like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Number 23, Carrey seems right at home playing Carl, a divorcé who starts out the film depressed and withdrawn, scared of taking a risk. Pressured by his best friend, Peter (Bradley Cooper), to get his act together or be stuck with a lonely life, Carl attends a New Age self-help seminar intended to change "no men" like Carl into "yes men" willing to meet life's challenges with gusto. Carl is reluctant at first, but finds the seminar to be ultimately life-changing when he's coerced into giving the "say yes" attitude a try. As the first opportunity to say yes presents itself, Carl hesitantly utters the three-letter word, setting the stage for a domino effect of good rewards, and giving Carrey a platform to show off his comic chops. But over time Carl realizes that saying yes to everything indiscriminately can reap results as complicated and messy as his life had become when saying "no" was his norm. The always-quirky Zooey Deschanel adds her signature charm as Carl's love interest, Allison. An unlikely match at first glance, the pair actually develop great chemistry as the story progresses, the actors play- ing off each other's different styles of humor. Keio Communication Review No.39, 2017 The Use and Abuse of Global Telepoiesis: Of Human and Non-Human Bondages Entangled in Media Mobilities OGAWA NISHIAKI Yoko* Introduction Collective memory is not an archive that is concealed or defiant to any access. Rather, collective memory is open to re-interpretation. Also, collective memory is displayed in various forms: names, folk tales, old films, TV programs and Japanese cinema on the big screen, which Japanese migrant women watch again but this time with local audiences in foreign cities. Media audience studies and other studies on diasporic media consumption (Morley, 1974, 1990; Collins et al., 1986; Liebes & Katz, 1990; Ang, 1991; Livingstone, 1998; Moores, 1993; Ogawa, 1992) have been endeavoring to examine readings of specific media texts in relation to audience so far. On the contrary, more detailed analysis of collective memory will be required to understand the global media mobilities we encounter in the past decades (Zelizer, 1993; Gillespie, 1995; Fortier, 2000). This paper will focus on recursivity by shifting the emphasis from meaning of the text itself to how collective memories in talks act as sites, namely time-spaces (Scannell, 1988, 1991; Gilroy et al., 2000). It is this type of media mobilities with which the Japanese women who live abroad try to locate themselves somewhere local amid the global upheavals they encounter (Ogawa, 1994, 1996; Urry, 2007; 1 Elliot & Urry, 2010) . With emphasis on Japanese women, who are unfamiliar with war memories but are destined to recursively cope with them, diasporic experiences in relation with media, history and self-identity will be highlighted (Dower, 1986; Goodman, 1990; Clair et al., 2016).
