Successful Dan Looks Headed to Whitney... Morton Fink=s Successful Dan (Successful Appeal) worked five furlongs in 1:00.16 over the Saratoga main track Friday morning, and should he emerge well out of the exercise, is likely to make his next start in the GI Whitney H. at Saratoga a week from today. It was the second consecutive bullet for the 7-year-old half- brother to reigning Horse of the Year Wise Dan (Wiseman=s Ferry), who went five-eighths of a mile in 1:00.61 July 20. "He worked really good and galloped out real strong," trainer Charles LoPresti said of Successful Dan, whose time was the fastest of 28 horses at the distance. "We're real Successful Dan Horsephotos happy with him. He did everything I wanted him to do and more. I was real happy with what I saw. If we decide to run in the Whitney, that'll be his last work. I am very much leaning in that direction. It's going to be a day-by-day thing. I want to see how he acts all week, but I'm leaning in that direction." Successful Dan returned from a nine-month absence to best Boisterous (Distorted Humor) in the GIII Ben Ali S. at Keeneland Apr. 21, but was most recently an excuse-free fourth behind Fort Larned (E Dubai), a potential Whitney foe, in the GI Stephen Foster H. at Churchill Downs June 15.
