SUMMER SHIPPING SCHOOL PARTICIPANT INFORMATION PACK

Copenhagen 27 September - 1 October 2021 BIMCO SUMMER SHIPPING SCHOOL

Welcome to the BIMCO Summer Shipping School 2021! Since 2002, BIMCO has organised the week-long Summer Shipping School every year in Denmark. This changed last year, when we had to cancel the event due to COVID-19. This year, our highest priority is our participants’ health and safety, and we have COVID-19 safety measures in place during the week especially at the hotel where the event will take place. Please be sure to read the health and safety requirements outlined on page 3. The course is a unique blend of basic principles on bills of lading, voyage and time chartering, laytime and demurrage, mixed with practical examples and case studies. BIMCO Training Bagsvaerdvej 161 On the following pages you will find some useful and practical information DK-2880 Bagsvaerd about and the places we will visit during the week. COVID-19 and the BIMCO Summer Shipping School

BEFORE ARRIVING IN DENMARK As a non-resident visitor to Denmark, it is important that you check and investigate the current rules in force via Entry into Denmark (https://en.coronasmitte.dk/rules-and-regulations/entry-into-denmark). It is very important that you acquaint yourself well in advance of your arrival in Denmark with the general COVID-19 rules for visiting Denmark, as well as the particular rules which may apply specifically for you! Which rules apply to you depends, among other things, on the colour category of the country you are travelling from, the category of your country of residence, and whether you are vaccinated, previously infected or travelling on a negative test. BIMCO is not able to guide individual participants whether they comply with the requirements, but will refer you to www.coronasmitte.dk.

“WORTHY PURPOSE” FOR VISITING DENMARK One of the requirements is having “worthy purpose”. You can enter Denmark for the purpose of attending meetings etc as part of your job. There are some requirements in this respect: “You must provide proof, such as an email, of the working relationship and of the time and place of the meeting. Further, you must present the contact details of a relevant contact person for the meeting in Denmark who can confirm the information provided by you. You must also present a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before entry, or a negative antigen test taken no more than 48 hours before entry.” BIMCO will provide each participant attending with a personal letter serving as documentation for your attendance at the BIMCO Summer Shipping School.

WILL I NEED TO SELF-ISOLATE AFTER ARRIVAL IN DENMARK? Only in certain circumstances – you are referred to Who should self-isolate and be tested after entering Denmark? (coronasmitte.dk) to ensure that you comply with the rules.

WHAT IF I TEST POSITIVE WITH COVID-19 WHILST ATTENDING THE BIMCO SUMMER SHIPPING SCHOOL? BIMCO has a protocol for handling this situation, which will be activated jointly with the venue KolleKolle and the Danish Health Authorities. Please consult your travel insurance policy to clarify how your travel insurance covers in case you test positive for COVID-19 during business travel. If your PCR test is positive, you are infected with novel coronavirus. You should immediately self-isolate to avoid infecting others. Initially, this will be at your hotel room at KolleKolle. This also means that you should keep your distance from people at the hotel, even if you do not have any symptoms of the disease. You will be contacted by the Danish Patient Safety Authority. “Coronaopsporingen” (the Danish authority responsible for tracing corona cases) within 24 hours and help you trace your close contacts, eg the people you may have infected. You can also call “Coronaopsporing” yourself at +45 32 32 05 11.

WHAT IF I HAVE BEEN IN THE PROXIMITY OF A COVID-19 PERSON DURING SUMMER SHIPPING SCHOOL? If you are NOT fully vaccinated, and you have been in the proximity of an COVID-19 positive person at the hotel or elsewhere, you MUST self isolate and are required to be tested on the 4 and 6 day after exposure. During this period, you must remain in isolation. You may be required to isolate at a hotel or facility decided by the Danish Patient Safety Authority. We therefore strongly urge you to be fully vaccinated prior to attending BIMCO Summer Shipping School!

WHAT IF I NEED TO TAKE A COVID-19 TEST PRIOR TO RETURNING HOME, OR LEAVING DENMARK? Two types of tests are used in the public test system in Denmark – PCR tests and rapid antigen tests. The nearest test facility for PCR tests is in Værløse, 2.4 km away from KolleKolle and for rapid antigen tests the nearest test facility is in Farum 5.7 km away, and they are open daily. The tests are free, also for non-Danish citizens. Towards the end of the BIMCO Summer Shipping School, BIMCO will assist all participants requiring a test prior to going home to be transported in groups to the nearest test facility.

COPENHAGEN ON YOUR OWN The beauty of Copenhagen is that the town centre is largely traffic free, which, coupled with the fact that most of the streets and buildings are laid out according to the medieval street plan, makes its sights and attractions very accessible on foot. A multitude of world-class museums and galleries; streets full of specialist shops; dozens of restaurants; and a tempting array of nightlife. The city’s main shopping area is centred on the longest pedestrian street in Europe, Strøget, stretching from the Town Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv where you find Magasin du Nord, the biggest department store in Scandinavia. A visit to the charming 17th century streets surrounding Strøget is also worthwhile. All participants are encouraged to explore, relax and have a great time. But don’t forget to find your way back to the hotel to get a good night’s sleep in preparation for Thursday’s full, exciting day of presentations and case studies!!

7 BIMCO SUMMER SHIPPING SCHOOL

THURSDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2021

M/S MARITIME MUSEUM OF DENMARK A bus will take us to Helsingør for a private guided tour of the Danish Martime Museum on Wednesday afternoon. Follow the sloping bridges down to the old dry dock between Kronborg Castle and The Culture Yard and enter an underground museum designed by the internationally renowned architecture company BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group). We will experience a colourful world with a whole range of exhibitions telling the story of Denmark as one of the world’s leading shipping nations – of the past and present. The museum’s maritime collections are presented in evocative and dramatic exhibitions, with films projected directly onto the architecture of the building. Welcome to a universe where you can see, listen to and actively experience the maritime world. Our lives depend on shipping. The world depends on shipping. It always has. Via shipping and the trade and cultural exchanges it is part of, Denmark has always been connected to the rest of the world. This is the history and contemporary life that unfolds at M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark. The architecture and exhibitions aim for new horizons, making the museum relevant, inclusive and accessible to everyone. The architecture of the museum is iconic, guiding visitors through a continuous flow of spaces expanding across gently sloping floors at different levels before crossing the old dock. The contemporary architecture and the deep outdoor space of the open dock invite you to visit our café and enjoy the surroundings and the wide range of diverse cultural events created with our neighbours under the umbrella of “Culture Harbour Kronborg”. The exhibitions are developed in collaboration with the exhibition designers Kossmann.dejong from Amsterdam. The story of each exhibition is powerfully expressed through film and a set design that almost wordlessly highlight and add perspective to the many exhibits on display. Your visit to the museum is enhanced by interactive installations and games, where together with others you can play and learn. The exhibitions present a fleet of merchant ships and fleet of personal stories linked to the museum’s fantastic collections from the past four centuries – putting Danish shipping and navigation of the past and present in the global perspective. Through thematic highlights we’re whirled into the challenges of the oceans faced by those at sea, through the temptations of the ports, and back home at the heart of their families. We explore the myths of the life of the sailor, experience the role of the captain at the helm between the Danish colonies of the 1700s, and sit behind the desk of the shipping executive conducting world trade today. We follow the route of the many products in our supermarkets that have travelled thousands of nautical miles to reach us. The permanent exhibitions are supplemented by changing, thematic exhibitions and our new education department, with activities for schoolchildren and anyone else interested in learning more about shipping and navigation through our teaching programmes. RESTAURANT TREKOSTEN Restaurant Trekosten is located at Nivå Harbour which is on the eastern coast between Helsingør and Copenhagen. Participants can enjoy a gorgeous view out over the Sound and the harbour while they dine. The dress code will be smart casual.

FRIDAY 1 OCTOBER 2021

On Friday evening, we have arranged the traditional farewell dinner at:

RESTAURANT JÆGERHUSET The bus will depart at 18:30. Dinner will be at Restaurant Jægerhuset, which was built in 1896. Ever since, it has been possible to be served a meal in the restaurant. Since the very first BIMCO Summer Shipping School in 1999, Jægerhuset has set the scene for the farewell dinner.

The dress code will be smart casual.

Other practical information DRESS CODE Business casual during the course, and smart casual for dinners.

WEATHER Be prepared for a little bit of rain, as the autumn in Denmark can be unpredictable. Hopefully, there will be sunshine! Daytime outdoor temperatures during the autumn months can get up to 12-15C (54-59F) on sunnier days with some rain. We recommend that you bring a jacket, rain gear and a sweater or cardigan especially for the evenings.

9 BIMCO SUMMER SHIPPING SCHOOL

About the Summer Shipping School The backbone of the BIMCO Summer Shipping School is the case studies, where participants are divided into groups to find practical solutions to the realistic situations presented. As in real life, there is rarely one fixed answer to a situation and the discussions between the groups and tutors form an important part of the learning objectives. On the last day, it all comes together in a full day exercise “Game of Fixtures” where the participants compete to fix ships and cargoes using all the knowledge they have gained over the previous days to get the best commercial results! Several unique events, including specially organised dinners, a visit to the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark, brokerage firm for a presentation on broking, Force Technology for a look at bridge simulators, topped up by a boat tour of the Copenhagen canals and port. The BIMCO Summer Shipping School is residential and the participants stay at the conference hotel for the duration of the course. The “boot camp” atmosphere is a very important part of the programme. Therefore, the hotel accommodation, excursions and all meals – except for Wednesday evening – are included in the fee.
