Night Shyamalan Book to Big Screen: THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Saturday, October 5th at 11AM In Partnership with Rollins College Master of Liberal Studies Stick around after the film for a discussion with Dr. Andrew Luchner of the Rollins College Psychology Department. Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling, a top student at the FBI’s training academy. Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn) wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out. USA, 1991, 118 minutes, Rated R, Directed by Jonathan Demme Midnight Movies: CHOPPING MALL Saturday, October 5th at 11:59PM Where shopping costs you an arm and a leg! When a pair of crates belonging to a house of horrors museum are mishandled by Wilbur (Lou Costello), the museum’s director, Mr. MacDougal (Frank Ferguson), demands that they deliver them personally so that they can be inspected for insurance purposes, but Lou’s friend Chick (Bud Abbott) has grave suspicions. USA, 1948, 83 minutes, Not Rated, Directed by Charles Barton Midnight Movies: NEKROMANTIK Saturday, October 12th at 11:59PM It’s difficult for modern audiences to understand, but in previous times the idea of a movie being banned outright from circulation was not outside the norm. Such is the corrosive power of transgressive art that a film like Jorg Buttgereit’s debut sicko feature Nekromantik could actually prompt the German government to declare it unfit for public consumption. Of course, when The Man says “That’s too sick,” that’s when the real-deal film fans start paying attention… A huge underground hit here in the States thanks to bleeding-edge zines like Film Threat, this one-of-a-kind object hasn’t lost any of its power to freak audiences out. Nekromantik tells of poor sad sack Rob, who works at a street-cleaning agency and visits roadside accidents to mop up the scene. Casually, as one does, Rob collects the disparate body parts and shares them with his equally unfazed girlfriend Betty. When Rob presents a complete corpse taken out of a swamp, their undying love reaches its peak — but soon after Betty takes more of a liking towards the corpse and leaves Rob, bringing him to the morbid end of his destruction. Germany, 1987, 71 minutes, In German with English Subtitles, Not Rated, Directed by Jörg Buttgereit Cult Classics: IDLE HANDS Tuesday, October 15th at 9:30PM When slacker teen Anton Tobias (Devon Sawa) has his right hand possessed by a demonic force, he finds that his life gets a lot more interesting. While Anton himself is an amiable guy, his hand proves to be an appendage of death, killing his two best buddies, Pnub (Elden Henson) and Mick (Seth Green), who return to life as wisecracking zombies. In addition to murdering those closest to him, Anton’s evil hand significantly hinders his chances with lovely neighbor Molly (Jessica Alba). USA, 1999, 92 minutes, Rated R, Directed by Rodman Flender Saturday Matinee Classics: DON’T LOOK NOW Saturday, October 19th at 12PM Nicolas Roeg Tribute Film Still grieving over the accidental death of their daughter, Christine (Sharon Williams), John (Donald Sutherland) and Laura Baxter (Julie Christie) head to Venice, Italy, where John’s been commissioned to restore a church. There Laura meets two sisters (Hilary Mason, Clelia Matania) who claim to be in touch with the spirit of the Baxters’ daughter. Laura takes them seriously, but John scoffs until he himself catches a glimpse of what looks like Christine running through the streets of Venice. UK | Italy, 1973, 110 minutes, Rated R, Directed by Nicolas Roeg Midnight Movies: BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR Saturday, October 19th at 11:59PM 30th Anniversary! Date. Mate. Re-Animate. It’s eight years since the Miskatonic massacre. Unperturbed by the disastrous outcome of his previous meddling with the dead, Dr. West (an always on- fire Jeffrey Combs) continues his research into the phenomenon of re-animation; only this time, he plans to create life — starting with the heart of his young protégé’s dearly deceased. Surely, nothing could go wrong. With SFX master Screaming Mad George (the man behind SOCIETY’s infamous “shunting” sequence) on hand to contribute a host of characteristically weird and wonderful creations — including zombified bats and a one-eyed finger spider — Bride of Re-Animator is a more than worthy successor to Gordon’s original cult classic, spilling forth with love for the classic horror films of yesteryear.
