The Flyfishers

ANDREW HERD

The Flyfishers’ Club was founded in 1884, at the dawn of a new era. The dry fly was about to capture the imagination of anglers around the globe, and the next decade would see the fastest rate of expansion that British fly fishing had ever known. Amongst its founders the Club included men who would not only make history, like Marston, Senior, Jardine, Halford, Skues, and Carlisle, but others who would record it, like Grey, Buchan, Sheringham, Hills, Ransome, and Kingsmill Moore. The Flyfishers, then, is not just the story of a Mayfair club, it is the story of British fly fishing from 1884 to the present day, told by the men who wrote it. Richly illustrated with over 400 images, many never seen before, the book is a unique record of our angling heritage.

‘The Flyfishers is quite simply a masterpiece - in both its authorship and publishing. In its design, typography and production the History is, in every respect, impeccable.’ - Timothy Benn
