Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, Egypt ABSTRACT Subfamily Cossoninae is distributed worldwide, with 287 genera based on latest literatures. Species of Cossoninae is found mainly in dead or dying plant parts of trees from pteridophytes to gymnosperms, and dicots, in case of feeding on alive or still sound tissues, the host specificity is high. In Egypt, it has seven genera including ten species. Those genera and species based on their latest position and changes according to latest literatures are Melicius gracilis (Rosenhauer), Melicius cylindrus (Boheman), Hexarthrum culinaris (Germar), Mesites pallidipennis Boheman, Mesites cunipes Boheman, Mesites cunipes var. cribratus Fairmaire, Choerorhinus squalidus Fairmaire, Amaurorhinus bonnairii Fairmaire, Pselactus spadix (Herbst), Micromesites deplanatus Pic. The species of these genera, which recoded in Egypt, is distributed in Mediterranean basin countries except the last species, which recoded only from Egypt. All those species collected from four regions, Maryut, Cairo, Ismailia and Alexandria, which located at North Egypt. They were found under the bark of old trees of willow, plane, mulberry, fig and Tamarix sp. during the whole year except the months of February, October and November. The fauna of Cossoninae probably are not reflecting the reality of which in Egypt, since those are not distributed throughout the country. So many weevil collections are required particularly from Middle and South Egypt in the next studies. Keywords: Taxonomy, Weevils, Curculionidae, Cossoninae, Egypt. INTRODUCTION Earlier, sub-family Cossoninae was treated either as a separated family of the Rhynchophora, subfamily of the Calandridae or a group under sub-family Curculioninae. -

The widespread Palearctic R. orbicrrlatc~s(Paykull) is reported for the first time from North America from numerous eastern and western localities. Rugilus latil~scul~~s(Casey, 1884) and R. oregotius (Casey, 1905) are shown to be conspecific with R. orbiculatus (Paykull, 1789) (NEW SYNONYMY); a lectotype for R. 1atiuscr1,lrrsis designated. Rugilris r~ifipesGermar, an immigrant species known previously from Washington and Ontario, is newly recorded from Quebec. -

Some useful info on Sardinia for the EFI annual meeting participants GEOGRAPHY - Area: 24089 km2 - 1.6M inhabitants, 68 inhabitants km-2 (30-120 depending on the province) - Highest elevation 1,834 m asl (Punta Lamarmora, Gennargentu) - 13.6% of the land is above 600 m asl, 18.5% is lowland - Reservoir full capacity: >2,000 Mm3 over an area of 29 km2; only one natural lake (Baratz, 40 ha) - Longest river: Tirso, 130.2 km CLIMATE - Average annual rainfall 764 mm (441-1119 mm), 75% of the precipitation from October to March - Annual reference evapotranspiration: 900-1100 mm - Aridity index 0.45 – 0.75 (semi-arid to sub-humid - Average annual temperature: 13.5 – 17-6°C depending on altitude (-0.57°C every 100 m altitude) - Wind: west quadrant (SW-W-NW) represent on average 55% of the total wind directions and the main direction of the strongest winds (ARPAS 2014). In the Strait of Bonifacio heavy winds (>13.5 m s-1) were recorded on 33.8% of the days of the year (one every three). ABSTRACT Recent studies have demonstrated that conflict is common among gene trees in phylogenomic studies, and that less than one percent of genes may ultimately drive species tree inference in supermatrix analyses. Here, we examined two datasets where supermatrix and coalescent-based species trees conflict. We identified two highly influential “outlier” genes in each dataset. When removed from each dataset, the inferred supermatrix trees matched the topologies obtained from coalescent analyses. We also demonstrate that, while the outlier genes in the vertebrate dataset have been shown in a previous study to be the result of errors in orthology detection, the outlier genes from a plant dataset did not exhibit any obvious systematic error and therefore may be the result of some biological process yet to be determined. -

In this article the authors study a few Corsican rocky coasts plant communities, within the framework of the development of the Prodrome vegetation of Corsica. This work is based on the analysis of 51 unpublished phytosociological relevés and their comparison with previous historical data. Five new plant associations and subassociations belonging to Saginetea maritimae (Catapodio marini-Hymenolobetum revelierii and Catapodio marini-Centaurietum tenuiflori), Crithmo maritimi-Limonietea (Loto cytisoidis-Juncetum acuti), Artemisietea vulgaris (Loto cytisoidis-Dactylidetum hispanicae crithmetosum maritime) and Helichryso italici-Crucianelletea maritimae (Helichryso italici-Thymelaeetum tartonrairae) are described on the coastal cliffs of Corsica. Their synecological and synfloristic characteristics are presented together to other environmental features. Peck Department of Biology, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5B6, Canada stewart_peck@carleton. ca Abstract. The beetle fauna of the island of Dominica is summarized. It is presently known to contain 269 genera, and 361 species (in 42 families), of which 347 are named at a species level. Of these, 62 species are endemic to the island. The other naturally occurring species number 262, and another 23 species are of such wide distribution that they have probably been accidentally introduced and distributed, at least in part, by human activities. Undoubtedly, the actual numbers of species on Dominica are many times higher than now reported. This highlights the poor level of knowledge of the beetles of Dominica and the Lesser Antilles in general. Of the species known to occur elsewhere, the largest numbers are shared with neighboring Guadeloupe (201), and then with South America (126), Puerto Rico (113), Cuba (107), and Mexico-Central America (108). The Antillean island chain probably represents the main avenue of natural overwater dispersal via intermediate stepping-stone islands. The distributional patterns of the species shared with Dominica and elsewhere in the Caribbean suggest stages in a dynamic taxon cycle of species origin, range expansion, distribution contraction, and re-speciation.
