It is always good to take some time away from the regular routine so our hearts and minds can process and make meaning from the learning that takes place each day. Our faculty, staff, and students work hard each day to in- spire, equip, build, and empower; and these times away from school are part of that process. It helps us persevere during the weeks that can, at times, seem a bit long. Speaking of perseverance, this is our character trait for May! Elementary students took part in a Charac- ter Assembly this morning where perseverance was defined as "continue striving to the end." We look forward to partnering with you at home as together we encourage children to persevere with their best effort through the final day of school on 21 June! Bon weekend, Kevin Brenner Lower School Principal Announcements: Please look at and sign your child's correspondence book (Preschool) or agenda (Elementary) every night. Early notice: No backpacks with wheels will be allowed next school year. This will be strictly enforced next school year as it is a safety hazard for our students and staff. Students are allowed to take Rallye de lecture tests in the morning with a pass from the teacher in MPR or with an adult before and after school. The 5th grade Innovation Fair is next Friday, 11 May! Projects will be displayed in the MPR starting at 8:30am that morning. 3 LOWER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS Dear Preschool Parents: Dear Teddy, You are invited to join us at school on Friday May 11th, 2018. Your best friend Do not forget your hat! 4 UPPER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS Announcements: On Friday, April 20th the first meeting of the Moroccan College Counselors Association (MoCCA) was held at GWA. College counselors from Rabat American School, American School of Marrakesh, Casablanca American School, the American School of Tangier, and George Washington Academy met to discuss com- mon issues and topics in college counseling and academic advising in Morocco. The college counselors also had a special visit from admissions representatives from two Ivy League uni- versities, Dartmouth and Columbia University. Emma McLeavey-Weeder (Dartmouth) and Whitney Green (Columbia) talked about the admissions process at highly selective schools in the United States and dis- cussed the importance of "good fit" over ranking. Students and parents should always do the research. Make sure your college list reflects schools that are the best fit for you. Don't base your choices on rankings or prestige. Rankings can be based on a number of factors and can be misleading. The only way to find out if university is right for you is to do the research! 5 ASA@GWA Is your child interested in learning to code but has no background in it?
