  • Sneed-Rojas Hands That Hold
Hands that Hold By Emilio Rojas and Pamela Sneed Commissioned by the Centre for Human Rights and the Arts Bard College, 2021 Let me sip your sap Through a sumac straw I am a vessel, Overflowing. Let me drink your blood of my blood, Your roots imbibe water from the ground Who owns this land? Who was here before us? Whose hands worked the fields, picked up the fruits? My arms, your branches, My torso, your trunk My lungs, your leaves Alveoli, A tree lives inside me, Upside down, I inhale oxygen, Exhale CO2 You inhale CO2 Exhale oxygen Beings in symbiosis Invisible rhythms, we’ve forgotten how to breathe into each other’s utterances, language became a thing of the mouth, And the vocal cords, And the body forgot its speech, when did we think ourselves different from the land from each other? then our mother? How much blood, sap, serum, suero, sweat has fed this soil? Whose hands, whose sweat, whose blood has dripped into this dirt, we try to call home? Even if we have been displaced to many times to count or carry, We are settlers in stolen territories How can anyone be illegal in looted land? What is the weight of the blood running through my veins, valves, and vacancies? Each drop a portal a place to be, The sweet locus of your origin Blood like sap traveling Through my body. I inhale oxygen, Exhale CO2 You inhale CO2 Exhale oxygen Am I drinking from the roots, or from the branches? Which way does your scarlet gown flow, the color of cardinals and martyrs, sweet rain and iron Our bodies swelling, made of water and matter.

At the same time, Save The Bay has repeatedly sounded the alarm on imminent threats to the Bay. Often, these threats come out of the blue, in the form of damaging industrial proposals, misguided legislation, natural disasters or flawed public policy and regulatory initiatives. The year 2016 witnessed two of these emergencies: a poorly vetted proposal to fill 31 acres of the Providence River and a flawed proposal by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that would fundamentally alter the character of Rhode Island’s southern coast. In both cases, Save The Bay responded immediately and with great effect.

  • Some Puhuu: Belgia Voittaa Euroviisut
Lehdistötiedote 11.5.2017 Some puhuu: Belgia voittaa Euroviisut Euroviisut ovat täydessä vauhdissa ja huipentuvat finaalitaistoon lauantaina. Sosiaalisen median mukaan voiton kotiin vie Belgian Blanche. Arvio käy ilmi Adoben tuoreesta raportista. Adobe on analysoinut 29 miljoonaa Euroviisuihin liittyvää sosiaalisen median aktiviteettia. Tulosten mukaan Belgian edustaja Blanche on vahvin voittajaehdokas. Näin ollen vedonlyöjien suosikki Italia ei siis tulisi juhlimaan voittoa. Kymmenen kärki sosiaalisen median mukaan 1. 17-vuotias Belgian Blanche nousi suuren yleisön tietoon Belgian Voice-kilpailun kautta. Blanche on yksi Euroviisujen nuorimmista kilpailijoista tänä vuonna ja esittää kappaleen City Lights. 2. Italian Francesco Gabbani esittää kappaleen Occidentali’s Karma. Laulu on saanut paljon inspiraatiota itämaisesta kulttuurista. 3. Ranskan edustaja Alma esittää Requiem-kappaleen. Musiikkia hän alkoi tehdä viisi vuotta sitten. 4. Kreikan Demy esittää kappaleen This Is Love. Edustustehtävän lisäksi hän on kreikkalaisen Mamma Mia -tuotannon pääosassa. 5. Isoa-Britanniaa edustaa Lucie Jones, joka oli maan X Factorin finalisti vuonna 2009. Hän esittää kappaleen Never Give Up On You, jonka kirjoittamiseen on osallistunut vuoden 2013 viisut voittanut Emmelie de Forest. 6. Saksaa edustava Levina aloitti oman musiikin tekemisen jo 12-vuotiaana. Hän esittää kappaleen Perfect Life, jonka tekijä Lindy Robbins on tehnyt hittejä Anastacialle, Backstreet Boysille ja Jason Derulolle. 7. Irlannin Brendan Murray on Hometown-poikabändin jäsen ja edustaa maataan kappaleella Dying to Try. 8. Euroviisuissa hän esittää kappaleen Don’t Come Easy. 9. Sveitsiä edustava Timebelle on yksi Euroviisujen monimuotoisimmista bändeistä: Sveitsin lisäksi jäsenillä on juuria Romaniassa, Ruotsissa ja Saksassa.

Teachers were taking the book and passing it around among themselves, insisting that their principals, assistant principals, and superintendents read it. Moreover, wherever I traveled, teachers would take me aside and say something like, “I know this book is about what happened in my school. Who was it who told you about what happened?” A principal once asked me if someone sent me his memos. A teacher from a school named Harrison High handed me a sheet of school stationery. The school’s logo was the lamp of learning that appears in the book. It got so that when I spoke to groups of teachers about the book, I took to asking, “Has anyone NOT heard of such an incident happening in your schools?” No one ever raised a hand.

An international manhunt was well under way for the plotters behind the world’s biggest-ever computer ransom assault. The indiscrimi- nate attack, which began Friday, struck banks, hospitals and government agencies in more than 150 countries, exploiting known vulnerabilities in old Microsoft com- puter operating systems. US package delivery giant FedEx, European car facto- ries, Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica, Britain’s health service and Germany’s Deutsche Bahn rail network were among those hit. Europol executive director Rob Wainwright said the situation could worsen today as workers return to their offices after the weekend and log on. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” the head of the European Union’s policing agency told Britain’s ITV televi- sion, calling its reach “unprecedented”. “The latest count is over 200,000 victims in at least 150 countries. Many of those victims will be businesses, including large corporations. We’re in the face of an esca- lating threat.
